Editor’s Note

Welcome, dear reader, to the relaunch of Covered Magazine.
Yes, it has been a minute! We are excited to announce that we are back—this time, with seasonal issues instead of bimonthly ones. And what a time to be back, with the world today interwoven with rapid technological advancements and deep-seated challenges. While breakthroughs in artificial intelligence, renewable energy, and healthcare are transforming lives and economies, geopolitical tensions, climate change, and social inequalities continue to pose significant threats. The COVID-19 pandemic has reshaped global dynamics, highlighting both the fragility and resilience of societies.
Amidst these complexities, there is a growing movement towards sustainability, inclusivity, and digital innovation as humanity grapples with balancing progress and preservation in an increasingly uncertain future. True! An uncertain future indeed, especially for those on the other side of the spectrum.
For those people who are being massacred and nations being destroyed for the sake of superiority, how do they get to live their lives with the hope for a brighter future? How do they continue to have the patience to believe that all will be well in the future? How do they see their reality pan out?
We can all ask about the ‘hows,’ but one thing that we can take from these beautiful people is their belief in the Almighty. That is the reality! The reality is that even though they are suffering, they are calling on us, not only to come to their aid, but to do something that is more crucial than ever before—for us all to unite and pray together as one. That is where the power lies. That is where the hope lies. Our reality might be privileged amidst their disparity, yet they still continue to have hope.
From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free.

Lifestyle Habits for Winter Wellness
It’s not just you… There truly is something about the change of season that can get you out of sorts. The colder months bring unique challenges to maintaining physical and mental well-being. The drop in temperature, shorter days, and increased prevalence of seasonal illnesses necessitate a proactive approach to health. Here are some essential tips to help you stay healthy and vibrant during the winter season.
Boost Your Immune System
Winter is synonymous with the flu season, making it vital to strengthen your immune system. A balanced diet rich in vitamins and minerals is key. Incorporate plenty of fruits, particularly those high in vitamin C, like oranges, strawberries. Add winter root veggies to your diet, these are complex, slow-burning carbohydrates. Some common root vegetables include carrots, radishes, beetroot and sweet potato. Vitamin D is also essential, especially since we get less sunlight in winter. Foods like fatty fish, fortified dairy products, and supplements can help maintain adequate levels.
Stay Active
Wintertime is a time when it’s normal to feel a little lethargic. The cold might also tempt you to want to stay indoors. However, it’s crucial to maintain a moderate amount of physical exercise to boost your immunity and maintain good health. Exercise also boosts your mood, and helps regulate weight. If outdoor activities like running or cycling are not appealing, consider indoor alternatives such as yoga, pilates or home workouts. Even brisk walking for 30 minutes a day can make a significant difference.

Look after your mood and mental health
The shorter days and longer nights of winter can contribute to Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), a type of depression that fluctuates with the seasons and sets in at the same time each year. To combat this, try to maximize your exposure to natural light by spending time outdoors during daylight hours.
Access BARS therapy is also a great way to get the energy flowing throughout the body. It is a hands energy healing process. By lightly touching the 32 different energy centres on the head, the process begins to release the polarity of our thought, feelings, emotions and considerations stored in the brain. This brings the body and mind back into line and harmony with each other.
Hydration and Skin Care
Your skin may become dry, dull, and dehydrated during winter. Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated, as people often drink less water in winter compared to summer. To keep your skin smooth and radiant, use a high-quality moisturiser and sunscreen. This is especially important for people suffering from psoriasis and eczema. Consider using a humidifier at home to add moisture to the air, which can prevent dry skin, nosebleeds, and respiratory problems.
Layer up Smartly
Dressing in layers is a smart way to stay warm and comfortable in fluctuating temperatures. Start with a moisture-wicking base layer to keep sweat away from your body, add an insulating layer like fleece or wool, and finish with a waterproof and windproof outer layer. Don’t forget accessories such as hats, scarves, and gloves to protect your extremities from the cold.

Practice Good Hygiene
Three words: Wash your hands. This is one of the best ways to avoid getting sick and spreading common winter illnesses, such as colds. Germs accumulate through nearly everything you do or touch, so wash your hands frequently. Additionally, avoid touching your face, particularly your eyes, nose, and mouth, to reduce the risk of infections.
Eat Warm and Nourishing Foods
Your food preference, metabolism, and even energy levels change during the colder season. Winter is the perfect time to enjoy warm, hearty meals. Soups, stews, and casseroles not only provide comfort but are also an excellent way to incorporate a variety of vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains into your diet. Herbal teas and broths can also help keep you warm and hydrated.
Auricular Acupuncture
Auricular Acupuncture offers countless benefits during the winter, from reducing inflammation and relieving pain to improving sleep and boosting your mood. Its immune-stimulating function helps prevent colds, the flu and other illnesses that are more common in winter months. Acupuncture also promotes optimal circulation and the release of endorphins which naturally boosts your mood. It assist with alleviating joint stiffness and discomfort caused by the cold weather. It is one of the ways to remove toxins from the body and treat stress and emotional challenges.

By adopting a few of these winter self-care tips, you can navigate the winter months with resilience and vitality. Taking care of your body and mind during this season will not only help you stay healthy but also enjoy the unique beauty and opportunities that winter offers.
“Winter is the time for comfort, for good food and warmth, for the touch of a friendly hand and for a talk beside the fire: it is the time for home.”

Facing Our Privilege, Seeing Their Reality
Cover Story
By Farah Sheik
The cover for our latest issue is nothing short of arresting. The model herself is adorned in lush garments and she exudes an aura of affluence. Yet, the backdrop tells a different story. It is a clear representation of the aftermath of the ongoing genocide in Palestine. A scene of destroyed homes and buildings forms the haunting background. This overall picture shows the disparity between the lives of people established amongst luxury versus those who are battling for survival. It is a visual metaphor for the indifference that can arise as a result of comfort, urging viewers to confront the uncomfortable truth of global suffering.
The genocide happening in Palestine is not a brand-new chapter in history. Its severity needs consistent attention. For decades, Palestinians have faced displacement, violence, and systemic oppression. They continue to live in refugee camps, death always around the corner, with no access to basic necessities. Families are torn apart, children are growing up in war zones, and a pervasive sense of insecurity affects every aspect of their daily life. They are subject to constant military action and blockades. The death toll rises daily, with children and civilians being the most affected. The scale of devastation is unprecedented, with millions displaced and entire communities obliterated. In Gaza, a territory that can only be described as the world’s largest open-air prison, the genocide is exacerbated by frequent bombings and an ongoing blockade imposed by Israel since 2007. Access to goods, medical supplies and food is severely restricted, leading to malnutrition. It is a humanitarian crisis, and the world now knows of this.
While Palestinians grapple with life-threatening challenges, many around the world live in comfort and luxury in their serene suburbs. This polarity in living conditions is not just geographical but also psychological. For people who are far removed from such conflict zones, it is easy to become desensitised to the suffering of others.
This detachment can be amplified in so many ways, by the constant bombardment of entertainment and consumerism that dominates media and culture. The affluence of the model on the cover represents this material wealth; it can become a form of escapism from the jarring truth that plagues Palestine and other parts of the world. It provides us with a reminder to be active and play our part as much as we can. It is a reminder of our privilege. Because many of us live in peace, with our concerns simply being what to wear to a social event, while others are fighting for their very existence. Let us not forget the people who continue to struggle for basic human rights and dignity while we have access to all of our needs and much more.
So, as we reflect on our own lives, let us not forget the Palestinians. We must unite and offer our collective prayers for them. We must ask for their freedom and an end to their suffering. It is not enough to be aware of their plight; action is needed, especially in our prayers. We must continue to pray and for world leaders to come together and fight for the justice and peace of the Palestinian people.
Together, we can make a difference. And every one of us can contribute to a future where safety and freedom is a right.

The Married Single Mom: Navigating the Challenges of Dual Responsibilities
In modern society, a growing number of women find themselves in a unique and often unrecognized situation: the role of the married single mom. This term describes a married woman who bears the majority of parenting and household responsibilities, often due to a partner’s demanding work schedule, absence, or disengagement. These women juggle the expectations of a traditional marriage with the realities of near-single parenting, facing challenges that require resilience and resourcefulness.
The married single mom often operates as the primary caregiver, decision-maker, and emotional anchor for her children. Despite having a partner, she manages most of the daily tasks involved in raising a family. This dual burden can lead to feelings of isolation and overwhelming stress, as these moms rarely receive the support typically associated with a two-parent household.

One of the significant challenges is the emotional toll. The married single mom may feel the weight of unmet expectations from society, family, and herself. The assumption that a partner’s presence equates to shared responsibilities can be far from the truth, leading to guilt, frustration, and exhaustion.
Moreover, the logistical demands are immense. Balancing work, childcare, household chores, and personal well-being is a herculean task. These mothers often become masters of time management and multitasking, yet the constant pressure can affect their mental and physical health. Imagine juggling a career, a toddler’s tantrum, and a mountain of laundry all while trying to remember if you’ve actually fed the dog or just thought about it. Spoiler: the dog’s still hungry.

Support systems are crucial. Extended family, friends, and community resources can provide much-needed relief. Online communities and support groups also offer a space for sharing experiences and advice, helping married single moms feel less alone. However, a critical part of the solution lies within the household: the involvement of the spouse. Yes, that other adult in the house—remember them?
Spouses must recognize the disparity in responsibilities and take proactive steps to share the load. Open communication is key. Couples should regularly discuss their roles and responsibilities, ensuring that both partners have a clear understanding of each other’s contributions and challenges. This dialogue can help identify specific areas where the spouse can provide more support, whether it’s through daily chores, childcare, or emotional backing. Think of it as a team meeting, but with fewer pie charts and more discussions about whose turn it is to unclog the toilet.
Additionally, setting realistic expectations and boundaries can alleviate some of the pressure. Spouses should strive to create a balanced environment where both partners can thrive personally and professionally. This might mean adjusting work schedules, delegating tasks, or seeking external help, such as hiring a babysitter or a housecleaner. Because let’s face it, even superheroes need sidekicks.
Jointly setting family goals and priorities can also foster a sense of teamwork. By working together towards common objectives, couples can strengthen their partnership and reduce the feeling of dealing with a one-sided burden. Spouses should also acknowledge and appreciate each other’s efforts regularly, reinforcing a positive and supportive dynamic. A heartfelt “thank you” can go a long way, especially when it’s for remembering to take the trash out without being asked. Incorporating self-care routines for both partners is essential. Encouraging each other to take breaks, pursue hobbies, and maintain social connections can improve overall well-being and relationship satisfaction. Even if that means one of you becomes an expert in underwater basket weaving—hey, whatever floats your boat!

In recognizing and addressing the unique challenges faced by married single moms, society can move towards providing better support and understanding. Spouses play a vital role in this journey by actively participating in family life and ensuring that the responsibilities of parenting and household management are shared equitably. Acknowledging their dual roles is the first step in creating a more inclusive and supportive environment for all parents. By working together, couples can navigate the complexities of modern family life more effectively, fostering a healthier, happier home for everyone involved.

Imani By Style Fabrics:
Modesty With Style
In the fashion world, where every season brings new styles, Imani By Style Fabrics remains a treasured place for the everyday Muslimah. Created by the Jassat sisters, Mariam and Raeesa, this brand blossoms from a passion of fabrics and fashion, nurtured in their father’s fabric shop and under their mother’s creative guidance.
The seeds for Imani By Style Fabrics were sown in the bustling shopping centre of the Oriental Plaza in Fordsburg, where Mariam and Raeesa Jassat spent their childhood at their father’s store, Style Fabrics. It was here, amid rolls of vibrant and beautiful fabrics, which the sisters’ fascination with fashion first flourished.
Their mother, a talented dress designer, also played a meaningful role in shaping their aesthetic talents. She helped to craft their outfits and instilled in them a keen eye for quality and the passion for fashion design. These early experiences became the foundation upon which the sisters would later build their own brand.

Shwe Shwe Musallahs and Salaah Abayas
The spark that ignited Imani By Style Fabrics came in 2016, when Mariam crafted a Musallah (prayer mat) for herself from a piece of brightly coloured shwe shwe fabric. This traditional South African cotton fabric of vibrant patterns and durability, was a perfect channel for her creativity. The Musallah’s design became a hit amongst family as well as friends and marked the beginning of the sisters’ venture into the world of modest fashion. From these beginnings, their flourishing business was born, Imani By Style Fabrics, its mission being to provide the present Muslimah with relatable, traditional, and modern fashion.
Each of their pieces tell a story of thoughtful craftsmanship and a passion for their work. From the outset with their shwe shwe Musallahs, which first captured the hearts of their community, the range has grown to embrace more of everyday life and special occasions. Their offerings now also include items like intricately covered books, perfect for jotting down reflections or dreams, shoe bags that combine usefulness with elegance, and pebble bags that add a splash of colour and convenience to one’s daily routine. Each item also carries the unique imprint of Imani’s heritage fabric choices.

Covered books; bags

And the modest wear range is where Imani’s heart beats the most. The collection seamlessly integrates stunning fashion with timeless principles of modesty and caters to women of all ages who seek style without compromise. The range spans locally made garments and exclusive imports, like the kimono-style Abayas, sourced from Doha. These pieces offer endless versatility, designed for one to be able to dress it up for a party, for example, or dress it down for a casual meet-up. And they always guarantee that the the wearer feels beautiful and respected.

The introduction of their first locally produced line for Eid ul Fitr was a special moment for Imani. This collection features three unique garments that embody Imani’s dedication to stylish, yet modest, wear.

The first piece, the Alara kimono, made of embroidered linen fabric, can be paired effortlessly with sneakers and denim culottes for a laid-back look, or wedge-heeled espadrilles and a delicate cotton anglaise dress for a more sophisticated look.
Next, the Aiyla dress and Ruya statement piece further showcases Imani’s flair for being able to seamlessly blend modesty with style. Available in vibrant cerise pink a well as a more subdued sophisticated black, the Aiyla is tailored for Muslimahs who appreciate a relaxed fit without sacrificing elegance. The sleeves are resin and beaded, with rhinestone details, adding a touch of graceful glamour.

The final piece and piece de resistance of the collection is the Ruya, which is made from luxurious organdy brocade fabric. The Ruya is a showstopper, designed for more important celebrations, such as weddings. Its rich texture and subtle gold accents ensure that the wearer feels nothing less than regal.

Imani By Style Fabrics is built on a foundation of authenticity, versatility, and inclusivity, vividly woven into every aspect of their business and interactions.
Authenticity shines through as the Jassat sisters personally engage with every design, ensuring that each piece reflects their high standards. They product test and model each garment themselves, guaranteeing that the styles they promote are beautiful and comfortable as well as practical.
Their designs are also made to serve multiple facets of a woman’s life, and this is where the versatility of their items come through. The Imaan Salaah Abaya, for example, is designed to create ease in prayer as well as ease for the outdoors. Imani ensures that their garments can adapt to various occasions and needs.
The sisters are also committed to inclusivity, catering to all women, regardless of their body type or ethnicity, as they know that every woman deserves to feel beautiful and respected. This is why their range is extensive in their styles and sizes.
At Imani By Style Fabrics, the Jassat sisters also make sure you can reach them and feel right at home doing so.
Instagram is where you can join the Imani community (@imanibystylefabrics). There, you can browse the latest collections, join conversations, share your thoughts, and even get sneak peeks behind the scenes. The sisters love to share their creative process and hear from you.
And if you want a one-on-one chat, their WhatsApp line is available on 072 1299 118. You can ask them about sizes, get advice on styling, or check on your order.

She truly wanted to bring lasting value to women’s lives. POETIC ONTOLOGY:
EXPLORING THE ESSENCE OF BEING THROUGH ARABIC CALLIGRAPHY

The solo show “Poetic Ontology” by Tunisian artist Abdallah Akar is on display at Khawla Art Gallery. Through the beautiful words of well-known Arab poets, audiences can explore the essence of existence through the exhibition’s contemporary Arabic calligraphy. Poets and art lovers alike should not miss Akar’s mastery of Arabic calligraphy, which he has infused with philosophical depth and emotional resonance.
The exhibition seeks to resonate with universal truths and common human experiences by bridging linguistic and cultural divides. The central focus of the show is Akar’s investigation of “ontology,” the philosophical study of existence and being. Akar infuses classical poetry with contemporary Arabic calligraphy, obfuscating the distinction between written language and visual art.
The exhibition will be on display from May 9th to June 30th at Khawla Art Gallery in Dubai Design District.

Fehmeeda Abdoola: From Humble Beginnings to Fashion Entrepreneur
Fehmeeda Abdoola, founder of Fems Design, believes that her love of clothing started early. Orphaned at the tender age of four, she faced many challenges but never, ever lost her spark. And when she married later in her life, Fehmeeda began stitching for her mother-in-law, a wonderful woman who inspired her to pursue her dreams. This became the starting point for what would later become a thriving business.
At the age of 38, Fehmeeda decided to formalise her skills by taking a design course. She began creating garments like nightgowns and slips, holding small fashion shows. Her very first show, ‘Mothers & Daughters’, held at the TMS school, revealed her exceptional skills in fashion. But her journey still wasn’t easy. She cooked for people to save enough money to buy industrial sewing machines, slowly building her brand. Her hard work paid off, and today, she proudly runs Fems Design, a boutique well-known for its quality and uniqueness.
Fehmeeda invested in the best fabrics to make sure that each piece was perfect, winning the loyalty of her customers. Fehmeeda’s boutique also became known for its exquisite Hajj & Umrah sets, Islamic and semi-Islamic swimwear, and Mothers & Daughters sets.
Fems Design offers garments made from high-quality fabrics that are both comfortable and affordable.

Islam: A Unique Perspective on Life’s Essence
By Mariam Teladia
In today’s tumultuous world, filled with technological advancements, environmental crises, and ongoing conflicts, many of us find ourselves searching for inner peace and solace. Amidst these challenges, the essence of life takes on a profound significance, and it’s in this quest for meaning that Islam offers a unique perspective.
The Quran, Islam’s holy book, provides guidance for believers in navigating life’s trials and tribulations. Surah Al Asr (Chapter 103) reminds us of the importance of faith, righteous deeds, and patience, serving as a beacon of hope in times of uncertainty.
Recently, in a heartfelt conversation with a Pastor and his wife, I came to appreciate the value of faith (Imaan) in Islam. We discussed the challenges of modernity, the significance of prayer (Salaah), and the guiding light of the Quran. Surprisingly, they were captivated by the beauty and simplicity of Islam, drawing parallels between the life of Jesus (Isa) and the teachings of Islam.
Central to our conversation was the reverence for all prophets, including Jesus, and the belief in the unchanging nature of the Quran. We reflected on the need to hold onto hope and faith amidst societal changes and Western influences, emphasizing the importance of collective action and prayer for guidance (Hidayah).

And with technology which has undoubtedly revolutionized our lives, offering both benefits and challenges. While it provides global connectivity and access to information, it can also lead to isolation and disconnection from the natural world. Additionally, the impacts of climate change, such as floods in the Middle East, serve as urgent reminders of the need for sustainable development.
Amidst global conflicts and wars, such as those in Syria and Palestine, innocent civilians suffer immensely. The humanitarian crisis in Syria and the plight of Palestinians highlight the urgent need for peace and stability.
In the face of these challenges, Islam calls for collective prayer and reliance on Allah for guidance and strength. Through strong faith (Imaan) and unity, we can work towards sustainable solutions to climate change, promote peace in conflict zones, and foster understanding across cultures and beliefs.
In essence, Islam offers a unique perspective on life’s essence, emphasizing faith, compassion, and collective action in addressing the pressing issues of our time. As we come together as a global community, let us turn to Allah for guidance and strive to create a world where harmony and peace prevail. Aameen.
The Powerful Symbolism of Palestinian Tarteez Embroidery.
Dresses for Defiance
By Sumaya Mamdoo

Capturing Jerusalem’s Essence: The Art of Tarteez Embroidery.
The streets of old Jerusalem are probably just as you imagine them: cobblestoned, ancient, and brown. Now and then there would be pops of colour tables piled with sweets and women in traditional Palestinian thawbs walking with their children. These thawbs would usually be black with red or pink stitchwork. It was when a lady sat very close to us while we waited for the Jummah prayer to start in the Dome of the Rock that I could see the embroidery was very geometrical and intricate.
Tarteez is the traditional embroidery of Palestine. It is a cross-stitching method that produces patterns that look block-like and geometric. The Tarteez practice originated 3000 years ago, and just like the complexities of the Holy Land, it has gone through much change and symbolism.
The Subtle Power of Palestinian Garments in the Face of Colonialism.
Originally, the patterns could tell you a lot about the person wearing the garment as well as the maker of the garment. The symbols and patterns embroidered would be inspired by what the maker saw around them. So often, tarteez patterns could tell you where the wearer was from.
Women from different regions in Palestine would embroider what was important to that village or region. In Gaza, for example, tarteez patterns would be stitched in the form of cypress trees, which grew frequently there, while tarteez from Ramallah would feature flowers.
Colours also indicate more about the person wearing them, with reds and pinks reserved for younger girls and greens for older women who were married. Different patterns and threads are used for different occasions, such as pregnancy or marriage. Silk thread is used for these special occasions, while it is more common to use cotton for everyday tarteez thawbs.
How Palestinian Tarteez Embroidery Transformed into a Symbol of Resistance
The practice of tarteez was passed down by families and communities, with girls sometimes learning how to cross-stitch (and then learn more complicated stitches called
This all changed after the Nakbah of 1948. Women found themselves in refugee camps altogether; the villages where they had come from had been destroyed, and they had no money. tarteez was now no longer an art but a way for these displaced women to earn an income, and just as the keffiyeh became a garment of resistance, so did tarteez embroidery.
Women would no longer sew symbols from their villages onto their thawbs but rather symbols of resistance. When the Israeli government banned the Palestinian flag, thawbs were embroidered with tarteez that featured it as a form of resistance. The intifada dress was a garment that had tarteez patterns of the flag, Masjid Al-Aqsa, maps of their homeland, and the name Philistine embroidered on the thawbs. Nowadays, it is a commercial practice specifically for women in the diaspora, like those in refugee camps in Lebanon, where Palestinian refugees are restricted from working in just any industry. The garment remains central to Palestinian heritage; it is a dress that details where each girl is from and serves as a timeline of their lives. It must be preserved.

The importance of garments as a form of resistance must not be discredited. In the postcolonial world specifically, where so much of our culture was suppressed in order to adhere to colonial standards, it is important to hold on to these small things as a symbol for who we are. From Mandela refusing to wear a suit and rather his silk shirt at formal events to the uniforms of the Black Panthers and the Sapeurs of Brazzaville, The Palestinian cause is about resisting colonialism and holding onto what makes Palestine Palestinian. While it is easy to learn the history of what accord was signed when and to argue the facts constantly, we must remember that Palestinians are human; they are not just death tolls to be posted at the end of each day. They enjoy poetry and music; they like leisure; and they wear clothes that represent them. They have hopes and dreams. We must remember this art. In spreading the news about them, we must preserve what would have been in their lives: a tarteez thawb sewn for a girl who would never wear it. That is resistance.
I often think about the woman who prayed next to me in the Dome of the Rock. I wish I could tell you which region the embroidery on her sleeve was inspired by, but I can t. I just have an image of a woman squeezing tightly into a space that should have rightfully been hers.
Embracing Intimacy in Winter:
A Sensory Experience
Winter in South Africa, from June to August, brings chilly mornings and nights with mild, sunny days. This season offers a unique opportunity to deepen intimacy with partners, friends, family, and oneself. By engaging our five senses, we can fully embrace the warmth and beauty of a South African winter, enhancing our connections and well-being. When we talk about the word intimacy, we automatically think alone time with our partners or spouse. Intimacy is far beyond that and it starts with us- how intimate are you with yourself? Here are a few ways to connect with the self this winter.
Sight: Creating a Visual Haven
Winter’s serene, muted palette can create a calming environment. Decorate with rich hues like deep reds, oranges, and browns to bring warmth to your home. Enjoy South Africa’s spectacular winter sunsets, taking time to watch the vibrant colours as the sun dips below the horizon. Engage in winter-themed art, whether visiting local galleries or creating your own pieces.

Sound: Cultivating Auditory Comfort
Sound significantly enhances a cosy atmosphere. Incorporate nature sounds, such as the gentle crackling of a fire or rain, to create a peaceful ambiance. Deep, meaningful conversations with loved ones can foster emotional closeness. Share stories, dreams, and reflections to strengthen bonds.
Smell: Aromatic Experiences
Scents have a powerful connection to memory and emotion. Fill your home with comforting aromas from hearty winter meals like curries or bread pudding. Use scents like cinnamon, vanilla, or eucalyptus to create a warm atmosphere with essential oils and candles. Enjoy the fresh, crisp scent of winter air or the earthy smell of a rain-soaked ground during a walk.

Taste: Winter Flavours
Taste offers a direct way to experience the joys of the season. Indulge in traditional South African winter dishes like stews or malva pudding. Enjoy hot drinks such as rooibos tea or hot chocolate. Incorporate winter fruits and vegetables like oranges, butternut squash, and sweet potatoes into your diet.

Touch: Physical Warmth and Comfort
Winter enhances our appreciation for warmth and touch. Use soft blankets, wear cosy sweaters, and warm socks. Give and receive massages to relax tense muscles. Feel the crisp winter air on your face and the texture of natural elements like bark and leaves during nature walks.

Intimacy with the Self
Winter is also a perfect time to foster intimacy with oneself. Use the quieter months for self-reflection and personal growth. Journaling can be a valuable tool for exploring thoughts and emotions. Create a self-care routine that includes warm baths, reading, and other activities that nourish your soul. This personal intimacy is crucial for overall well-being and enhances your ability to connect with others. By fully embracing the sensory experiences of winter and prioritizing intimacy with oneself, we can create lasting memories and strengthen our bonds, making winter a truly enriching time.
