Covered Winter Issue 2025

Editor’s Note

It’s spring, and let’s  – Don’t stop talking about Palestine!

A slogan made famous by visionary designer Aziz Bekkaoui goes far beyond his Instagram, carried through his bold, boundary-breaking collections. We chatted with this soulful creator, who proves that fashion can be more than style – it can be a voice, a movement and a statement.

As I write this, I struggle to find the right words. Is there a silver lining? I do feel it lies in the reminder Soraya S offers in her piece “They Said It Then, and They’re Still Saying It Now”:

Hasbunallahu wa ni’mal wakeel – Allah is enough for us, and HE is the best disposers of affairs.

To you reading this: approach these pages with intention. Let each story, each design, each message remind us to stand together with our brothers and sisters, enduring the struggle. May our voices, no matter how small, carry hope, solidarity, and inspire action.

With that said, I hope you enjoy the read!

Spring into Beauty:

My Go-To September Makeup, Skincare & Perfume Tricks

by Faathima Abdoor

Spring is finally here, and with it comes the perfect excuse to refresh our beauty routines. After months of winter dryness, our skin is craving hydration, radiance, and a well-deserved reset. The truth is, makeup only looks as good as the skin beneath it—so let’s start there.

Skincare: The Foundation of Beauty

Lightweight, Hydrating Moisturiser

Out with the heavy creams, in with lightweight hydration. A gel-based moisturiser is my spring essential—it delivers moisture without leaving a greasy finish. Look for formulas with hyaluronic acid or niacinamide to achieve that fresh, “glass-skin” glow.

SPF Always, Always, Always!

No matter the season, sunscreen is non-negotiable. I reach for a lightweight, non-comedogenic SPF that layers beautifully under makeup—no white cast, no drama, just protection.

Gentle Exfoliation

To keep my skin smooth and luminous, I use a mild chemical exfoliant twice a week. My go-to is PHA, as it gently resurfaces the skin without causing irritation—perfect for maintaining a baby-soft, glowing complexion..

Makeup Tricks for Spring:

Less Is More

Spring beauty is about dewy finishes, rosy tones, and effortless elegance. My September makeup mantra? “I woke up like this… with just a little help.”

Cream Products over Powder

Cream blush, bronzer, and highlighter are my ride-or-die this season. They melt into the skin seamlessly, creating a natural, youthful glow that feels fresh and radiant—like you’ve just come back from a picnic date.

Tinted Moisturiser or Skin Tint

Heavy foundations can take a backseat. I prefer a skin tint that evens out the complexion while letting freckles and natural skin shine through. A quick hack: mix a drop of foundation with your moisturiser—voilà, an instant custom skin tint.

Glossy Lips & Brushed-Up Brows

Clear or tinted gloss paired with fluffy, brushed-up brows is my ultimate spring combo. I love a juicy, playful lip in peach or pink shades, while a good brow gel keeps everything polished yet effortless.

Fresh Pastels & Earthy Tones

Spring is the season to experiment. Think lilac eyeshadow, pastel liner, or a soft peach blush. Personally, I gravitate toward pinky-nude or bronze shimmer on the eyes—it’s subtle, sun-kissed, and oh-so-romantic.

Spring Fragrances: Light, Fresh & Feminine

As the weather warms up, I swap out heavy winter perfumes for lighter, breezier scents. Spring fragrances should feel like a breath of fresh air—floral, citrusy, and playful.

Here are a few of my favorites this season:

Daisy by Marc Jacobs

Soft, floral, and reminiscent of a picnic beneath cherry blossoms.

Chanel Chance Eau Tendre

Fruity, feminine, and always a compliment magnet.

Zara Femme or Nude Bouquet

Affordable, elegant, and surprisingly long-lasting.

Jo Malone Peony & Blush Suede

Luxury garden party vibes in a bottle.

Tip: To make your fragrance last longer, layer it over an unscented body lotion—it holds the scent beautifully, especially in spring’s gentle breeze.

A Season to Refresh, Recharge & Re-Glow

September is that magical in-between month, where everything feels lighter, brighter, and full of new beginnings. Whether you’re revamping your skincare, refreshing your makeup bag, or finding your signature scent, remember this: beauty isn’t about covering up—it’s about embracing and expressing the season you’re in.

SEVEN Ibiza:

Where Wellness Meets
the Mediterranean

Ibiza has long been a sanctuary for seekers of rhythm, beauty, and renewal. Now, with the arrival of SEVEN, the off-luxury wellness brand founded in Dubai, the island gains a destination that redefines mindful living. Nestled in Talamanca, SEVEN Ibiza draws on seven core philosophies — fitness, movement, recovery, relaxation, nutrition, longevity, and community — to craft an experience shaped as much by nature as by innovation.

Framed by olive trees, saltwater pools, and uninterrupted sea views, SEVEN Ibiza is the first to showcase Technogym’s new Artis Line in Sandstone, a design innovation inspired by Mediterranean textures. Warm, tactile finishes like natural wood and Pure Clay set the stage for a conscious approach to fitness, merging sustainability with sophistication.

Technology elevates the experience further. The Technogym Checkup, an AI-powered wellness assessment, measures posture, mobility, strength, and even cognitive function — translating the data into precision training programs. Paired with the Technogym App, it’s wellness designed to adapt, evolve, and endure.

Inside the studios, members flow between reformer Pilates, yoga, meditation, and sound healing. Recovery finds its rhythm in contrast therapies: hot and cold plunges, steam, sauna, and saltwater immersion. Nutrition comes courtesy of The Dose by Silvena Rowe, where a sugar-free, organic-leaning menu champions gut health, hormonal balance, and clean energy through seasonal farm-to-table dining.

Beyond workouts and rituals, SEVEN Ibiza fosters connection. From running and hiking clubs to community-led outdoor activations, the space encourages balance between inner stillness and active living — sunrise to sunset.

In collaboration with Technogym, SEVEN brings a vision to life: wellness woven seamlessly into lifestyle, guided by design, nature, and science. Ibiza has found not just another wellness retreat, but a new rhythm for everyday vitality.

Most Muslim women in their peri menopause phase, or menopause or post menopause phases of life are struggling. She is struggling to navigate her deeply personal and very misunderstood journey into her menopause. She is struggling with her sexual relations and intimacy in her marriage. She is struggling with her spirituality and connection to Allah SWT. And in this struggle, she is feeling alone, lost, inadequate, broken, disconnected and unloved.

There are two primary influencers to his struggle that we women face:

Firstly, that our Indian culture dishonours our cycles. We are told to bear, hide or push through them.

Secondly, everything that we consume about menopause, is from a very western, medical, patriarchal lens.

If we are to embrace this very sacred journey with barakah (blessings) and spiritual wisdom, then we must shift our paradigms about menopause. We need to put on our Islamic lens and navigate our menopause from this place. We need to navigate our menopause with barakah.

These shifts in paradigms include:

1. Value & Identity: Spiritually vs. Physically Defined

2. Role of the Woman Post-Menopause

3. Spiritual Meaning vs. Medicalization

4. Narrative of Empowerment vs. Loss

5. Approach to Support & Community

Summary:

In Islam, menopause is a dignified, empowering, and seen as a spiritual transition. It invites women to reconnect with themselves and their Creator, stepping into a role of wisdom and leadership.

Many of the great women of Islam became mentors and community leaders later in life. Menopause frees us from physical obligations and opens us to legacy-building.

You are now the wise elder, the nurturer of younger women, a bridge for generations. Whether through teaching, mentoring, activism, or spiritual guidance — your barakah grows in this phase.

Embrace, Don’t Fear

Menopause is not a disease. It is a divinely timed transition — part of your sacred journey to Allah. Let’s reclaim it as a season of hikmah, healing, and heart-centered leadership.

Walk this path with grace. With Allah. And with each other.

I am Ridwana Jooma, a Muslim Life Coach that supports, guides and mentors women through the sacred transitions of menopause, intimacy spiritual growth,
—all through an Islamic lens.

With compassion, spiritual insight, and practical tools,
she helps women reconnect with their fitrah,
navigate midlife changes with confidence,
reclaiming joy, connection, and purpose.

The Soft Girl Era

By Soraya Schroeder

More & more we’re seeing a return to the trending soft girl era, but what if I told you that this is not anything new, it’s a return to our fitrah in that we are returning to a way of being as intended by our Rabb.

And no, I’m not talking about a regression to one of weakness & subservience but rather a state of being that celebrates our presence, softness, receptivity & our unique quiet power.

When Allah (SWT) describes His mercy upon us, He uses the example of a mother to a child, but even more than that. So in essence, we are His example of Rahmah in this world. A world & the Hereafter that all comes from His mercy.

Somewhere along the way, we got it wrong & in our pursuit for justice — we ended up seeking equality that was defined by sameness — productivity over presence, hyper-independence over divine reliance, logic over intuition & liberation through rebellion, not surrender. We were driven to prove our value in a man’s world and forgot our value as women in a world created for both men and women. We forgot how to be soft without judging ourselves, how to accept help without feeling needy and how to speak our truth without feeling like we were betraying the very delicate illusion of strength that previous generations of ‘hustle’ groomed us to believe in. We’ve been conditioned to believe that self-care or slowing down is selfish, and even when we do, the cascade of guilt that follows is ridiculous.
But we forget that when femininity is viewed through the lens of fitrah, every act is an act of ibaadah because worshipping Allah is more than the fardhs, it’s a way of life.

We’ve heard of the great women in our rich Islamic history: Khadijah (RA) as a businesswoman at the head of emotional support for our beloved Rasul (SAW), Sayyidah Fatima (RA) for her modesty, emotional intelligence & service, Aisha (RA) for her intellect & a feisty personality and Nusaybah (RA) as a warrior on the battlefield.
But I’d like to draw your attention to something amazing.
Our feminine demeanour was crafted with intention by the one & only Creator.
There was a woman called Khawlah bint Tha’labah (RA) in the time of Rasul (SAW) & her husband enforced zihar (which was a pre-Islamic Arab custom that left her in an emotional limbo; she was neither married nor divorced & she didn’t know what to do). So she went to Rasul (SAW) with her situation & what happened next was amazing — the beginning ayahs of Surah Mujadilah were revealed:

“Indeed, Allah has heard the statement of her who pleads with you (O Muhammad) concerning her husband…”
(Surah Al-Mujadilah, 58:1)

Before any ruling or command, Allah (SWT) gave her what we all long for — validation, presence & acknowledgement.
Why though? Because He wanted us to know that a woman’s emotional truth matters.

And this is a pattern in Allah’s words to us, in particular when addressing women in the Qur’an — it often starts with:
“Do not grieve.”
“Do not be sad.”
No shaming, no rebuke, softness.

The Qur’an holds space for the emotional realities of women, not as weakness but as part of our spiritual blueprint.
Our softness is our strength. It’s the key to our spirituality & the doorway to living a life in touch with all of the blessings he has bestowed upon us, and this return to softness is our return to our Rabb. There is a hikmah in the way Allah has created us as women, and coupled with the rights and protection offered by our deen, we have a unique opportunity to thrive as the internal compass of our homes, families and communities. So embrace your softness, your strength and let the guilt go.

Grief

Healing Beyond the Pain

By Amiena Ally, Wellness Loft

Grief is a deeply personal journey – complex, unpredictable, and at times, overwhelming. Whether triggered by the loss of a loved one, a relationship, a career, or even identity, grief weaves its way through our mental, physical, and emotional landscapes in ways that aren’t always visible… but are undeniably profound. While grief can be intense and disruptive, it is a normal human experience, not a disease.

Everyone grieves differently, and there’s no set timeline or “right” way to process loss.

The Hidden Costs of Grief on the Body and Mind

Grief is often seen as an emotional experience, it carries undeniable weight on our physical health. It can manifest as:

  • Sleep disturbances and fatigue
  • Weakened immunity
  • Hormonal imbalances
  • Chronic inflammation
  • Digestive disruption

Mentally, grief may sharpen anxiety, deepen depression, and even impair cognitive clarity. These are not just side effects, they are signals. The body is asking for healing, for restoration, and for space to recalibrate.

The Stages of grief

Elizabeth Kubler-Ross describes the five stages of grief in her book On Death and Dying. Although it was published in 1969, it’s still the most well-known resource for understanding the grieving process.

Although her work focuses on grief responses from people who are dying, many use these stages to understand grief across multiple types of loss.

The Stages include:
Denial – You may have difficulty accepting that a loss is real.
Anger – You may direct anger at multiple sources, including people who couldn’t save a loved one, God, yourself or even no one in particular.
Bargaining – You may imagine reaching an agreement, so you don’t have to deal with a loss. You may also regret past actions that you imagine could’ve spared you from loss.
Depression – You may experience the complex emotions associated with depression, including emotional detachment.
Acceptance – Eventually, most people embrace the reality of loss even if the pain’s still there.

A Holistic Path to Healing
At Wellness Loft, we understand that grief doesn’t follow a linear path. That’s why our healing philosophy is integrative — bridging the physical body, soul, and self-awareness. Here are some foundational pillars for holistic recovery:

Emotional Resilience
Therapies like behavioral health coaching, guided journaling, and trauma-informed counselling allow individuals to express, explore, and release the emotional layers of grief at their own pace.

Physical Restoration
Grief takes a toll on cellular health. Treatments such as IV Micronutrient therapy, Red Light therapy, and Adaptogen support help replenish and rebalance the body’s systems affected by prolonged stress and sadness.

Energetic Recalibration
Energy-based therapies like Resonance therapy, Acudetox, Access Bars, Yoga and Acupuncture support emotional regulation by clearing stagnant emotional energy and reigniting internal equilibrium.

Spiritual Integration
Whether it’s mindful meditation, connection to faith, or nature-based rituals, honouring grief as a spiritual experience allows deeper meaning to emerge from loss. We encourage practices that nourish the soul while respecting personal beliefs.

Final Reflections
Grief is not something to be “fixed” it’s something to be held, honored, and understood. In a world that rushes healing, Wellness Loft offers a sanctuary to slow down, to listen inward, and to rebuild in a way that is intentional and integrative.

Healing is not linear but it is possible. And it begins with giving ourselves permission to feel, to seek support, and to approach wellness not as a destination, but as a continuum.

Natural Essence: Colours and Fabrics which Breathe

Enjoy the process of transforming your Space into a Sanctuary of Relaxation and Rejuvenation through colours and Sustainability.

By Dr. Manuela Pirola – Image & Colour Consultant and Interior Stylist

Spring heralds the rebirth of nature, bringing with it a sense of renewal and rejuvenation. As the season unfolds, this is the perfect time to infuse your home with the vibrant energy and calming essence of the natural world. Here are a few Moodboards for Nature-Inspired Interior Styling to help you convert your home into a Sanctuary of Peace and Relaxation.

Neutral Tones offer a serene backdrop, providing a calming influence that pairs effortlessly with all shades. Consider using hues like soft beiges and taupe’s, creamy whites and gentle greys to create a tranquil environment. These colours evoke a sense of peace and can be easily enhanced with bolder accents.

When using Neutral Tones, layering textures (for example, you might combine plush throws, woven baskets and soft area rugs) is advisable to add depth to the ambience. You can also introduce accents of colour for a touch of vibrancy.

Earthy Tones such as Terracotta offer a warm, grounding effect. These rich, clay-inspired colours connect your interior directly to the earth, providing a cosy atmosphere. Pair them with plant-based shades like Saffron Yellow for an exquisite contrast, which will help create an inviting space. For a more refreshing and lively feel, matching Saffron Yellow with tones of blue can be a good option.

Blues and Greens are reminiscent of the sky and sea, bringing a sense of tranquillity and freshness into your home. These colours symbolise harmony and balance, perfect for a serene living space: Aqua Green accents are perfect everywhere, especially if used as a pop of colour in cushions, vases or artwork. If you are thinking of painting your walls Blue, then opt for a soft light blue to evoke a soothing sky-like ambience.

You can also draw inspiration from the vibrant colours of spring flowers and fruits. Pink shades, for instance, can be beautifully matched with the softest tones of light blue and with greys (symbolising rocks present in nature), to create an original and sophisticated combo perfect for bedrooms and living areas in general; the super fresh Apple Green, instead, helps create a lively yet harmonious space. Beautiful especially in kitchenware or for small decor items, this energetic shade of green becomes a must when paired with wood and natural fabrics, like cotton, linen or hemp, perfect for curtains, upholstery and cushions, for a touch of eco-friendly appeal.

Sustainability in Interior Design and Decor is, in fact, essential. By incorporating nature-inspired elements, your home can really become a peaceful sanctuary that reflects the beauty and renewal of spring, providing serenity and energy.

Of course, when it comes to styling your home, choosing the right colours and materials is crucial. Colours have the power to transform spaces, evoke emotions and reflect your personal style.

If undecided about Styling, addressing a colour expert could be a great choice. Colour Consultants understand colour theory and its psychological impact. They craft palettes that enhance aesthetics and functionality within your home. Considering factors like lighting, room size and furniture, a Consultant ensures harmonious chromatic and styling choices.

Choosing the wrong colours, in particular, can lead to costly mistakes that will prove both time-consuming and expensive to fix. A Colour Consultant can help you avoid these pitfalls by providing expert recommendations and preventing mismatched or clashing combos. This foresight will save you time and money in the long run. Enlisting the help of an expert can make the process of styling your home even more enjoyable and less daunting. You will be able to create a beautiful, cohesive living space that reflects your personality and meets your needs.

They Said It Then

and They’re Still Saying It Now

by Soraya Schroeder

Hasbunallahu wa ni’mal wakeel

Allah is enough for us, and He is the best at handling our affairs.

This was the statement of the Prophets, the cry of the oppressed, the anthem of those who endure. And today, it resonates through the shattered streets of Gaza—from the lips of those who have every reason to lose hope, yet they don’t. Parents speak it as they lay their children to rest with a final kiss, eyes red with grief but hearts filled with certainty. They say it while pulling loved ones from debris, even as bombs destroy what little is left of their homes, hospitals, and hope.

Still, we hear it:

Hasbunallahu wa ni’mal wakeel. .

Faith Louder Than Headlines

The media may twist the story, mute the human cost, or excuse injustice—but one truth breaks through all the propaganda: the unwavering faith of the believer. It silences lies louder than any headline. Amid nightmare after nightmare, they call out—not in anger or bitterness, but in total surrender and trust in God. This stirs us. It awakens us. From every corner of the world, people are crossing borders—both physical and spiritual—to stand with Gaza. Because the people there have become more than victims; they are reflections of the power of belief, the beauty of resilience, and the essence of surrender to God’s Will.

The Legacy of Trust

Hasbunallahu wa ni’mal wakeel was the prayer of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) as he was thrown into the fire by his people. When Angel Jibreel (AS) asked if he needed help, he replied:

“Not from you. From Allah, yes.” This legacy lives on in Gaza today. Allah says: “I am as My servant thinks of Me.” And they are thinking the best of Him—even in ruins, even in graves.

Islam teaches that even in hardship, there is goodness (khayr). Sometimes, Allah allows our hearts to break so He can rebuild them—stronger, purer, ready for Paradise. But Islam does not glamorise suffering. It calls us not to passive endurance, but to rise—with dignity, honour, and purpose.

Wrestling with Privilege and Pain

For many watching from a distance, Gaza’s suffering brings grief, anger, and a desire for justice—but also helplessness, even guilt. Questions arise:

How can I live in comfort while others suffer? Why me? Why here?

It’s normal to feel conflicted. But divine wisdom places us exactly where we are, with the tools and abilities He’s given us.

Allah does not burden a soul beyond what it can bear. (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:286)

Indeed, with hardship comes ease. (Surah Ash-Sharh 94:6)

Perhaps you dislike something that is good for you… Allah knows, and you do not know. (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:216)

We can hold multiple truths at the same time—grief and joy, pain and purpose, privilege and responsibility. The key is to use these heavy feelings as fuel: Let sadness deepen gratitude. Let awareness of injustice draw you closer to Allah.

From Awareness to Action

Live sincerely. Speak the truth, even if your voice trembles. Take humble, genuine pleasure in the blessings Allah has given you. And know with complete certainty that He, the Master Planner, placed you here for a reason.

So do more. Give more. Support in any way you can. Boycott. Protest. Educate. Donate.

But don’t drown in despair—because for the believer, no cause is ever truly lost.

Practical Ways to Stay Grounded

1. Limit exposure to traumatic media. Stay informed intentionally—check updates once or twice a day, then log off.

2. Integrate action with intention. Boycott strategically, march when you can, give consistently, and impact your immediate circle.

3. Care for your body. Nourish it, rest, and move it. A balanced body supports a balanced soul.

4. Anchor into purpose. Reflect often. Let your energy come from blessings, not burnout.

5. Balance trust and action. Tie your camel, then place your trust in Allah.

A Supplication for Our Times

Hasbunallahu wa ni’mal wakeel.

With the hidden Kindnesses of Allah; with the Kindnesses of His Creation; with the Beauty of His Sanctuary, I enter under the Guard of Allah.

I seek intercession from our master, the Prophet ﷺ.

I protect myself with the Names of Allah.

I believe in Allah; I trust in Allah; I turn to Allah in every difficulty.

O Allah, Whose Name is beloved, Whose Face is desired, protect me from what my heart fears.

You are overpowering, and none can overpower You.

May peace and blessings be upon Muhammad ﷺ, his family, and his Companions.

May this revival of the ummah’s spiritual strength continue! Dua by Habib Umar Bin Hafiz, The Khulasah, The cream of remembrance.

Fashion as a Second Skin:

NEVER STOP TALKING ABOUT PALESTINE

An Exclusive Interview with Aziz Bekkaoui by Farah Sheik

Fashion has always been more than fabric, stitches, and fleeting trends. For some, it becomes a language—an unspoken form of storytelling, rebellion, and reflection of society itself. Few designers embody this truth as powerfully as Aziz Bekkaoui, whose work transcends the runway and delves into the realms of resistance, justice, and human identity!

From his early days at ArtEZ University of the Arts, where he explored the intersections of architecture, visual arts, and fashion, to his award-winning debut at the Festival des Jeunes Stylistes in Hyères, his career has been one of bold vision and fearless commitment.

His World Keffiyeh Day Collection featured on runways and encouraged conversations about Palestinian resistance. Though fashion critics argued that politics had no place on the catwalk, Bekkaoui knew that fashion has always been political, always been personal, always been a second skin that reveals who we are and where we stand.

In this candid conversation, Aziz Bekkaoui shares his inspirations, challenges, and hopes for the future of fashion as a tool for raising awareness and promoting activism.

1. How did you initially get drawn into the world of fashion?

It was always my dream to become an inventor. At art school, I wanted to study architecture, but then I discovered that fashion offers much more powerful and direct possibilities.

2. Can you tell us about your experience at the ArtEZ University of the Arts and how it shaped your career?

At ARTEZ University of the Arts, I had the freedom to experiment with different art forms, not only fashion but also architecture and the visual arts. I studied at the ArtEZ University of the Arts. The university offers several arts programs. So, during those years, I had the freedom to experiment with different art forms, not only fashion, but also architecture and visual arts.

3. Can you take us through your World Keffiyeh Day Collection and what you want to communicate through it?

I have always been, and still am, fascinated by tradition and craftsmanship. Where does something come from? From what context? Why did it come into being? What was the need for something to come into being? How was it made? What is its

construction? What materials and techniques were used? That is one side. The other side is that for me, a piece of textile is not just a piece of textile. It communicates something. There is a story attached to it. Textiles without content, without a story,

that is empty, decoration, soulless and pointless. The keffiyeh is a piece of textile that has been communicating and speaking to us for centuries.

This prompted me to start researching the origin, meaning and construction of the keffiyeh. With the Textile Museum, we did that analysis, and then based on tradition and with the necessary craftsmanship, had keffiyehs woven, thread by thread, made from cashmere and wool. As an ode to the keffiyeh. Without the context, the keffiyeh is a collection of threads, without soul, without substance.

Textiles, as I said earlier, can tell a story. Instantly. Stronger than 1,000 words. It shows where the wearer of that textile stands, how they face the world, and you confess colour. The keffiyeh tells the story of Palestinians’ resistance to the unreal being done to them. A piece of textile with enormous communication power, linked to tradition and craftsmanship. A symbol, stronger than a flag. A symbol of resistance.

4. Can you share some of the reactions you’ve received from people regarding your keffiyeh collection and its message?

When the World Keffiyeh Day Collection came out, there were voices in the fashion press saying that fashion and politics should be kept strictly separate. That what I was doing was not okay. Funny and also ironic when you see now, years later, what

is presented on the catwalks by the big fashion houses, for example, with the pro-Ukraine t-shirts; now it is possible. In art, oppression and occupation have always been denounced. And for me, fashion is still freedom of expression.

5. How do you incorporate the values of resistance and justice into your designs, and why is this important to you?

As a designer, I incorporate the values of resistance and justice into my designs by advocating for social change through my creative expressions. Fashion and design can be a powerful medium for social commentary and change. I hope my work will inspire dialogue and promote positive social transformation.”

6. What does fashion mean to you, and how do you see it as a medium for social commentary and activism?

Art, and therefore fashion, is about something that goes beyond the trend of the season and which colour is in right now. Textiles are my profession and my medium.

I want to use it to contribute to the fight against injustice and to make the world a better place. Of course, you don’t save the world with a fashion collection, but you can certainly use it to denounce something. The resistance of the current generation is with your art, design, and yes, fashion too. To me, a piece of textile is not just a piece of textile. It communicates something. There is a story attached to it.Textiles without content, without a story, that is empty, decoration, soulless and pointless.

Textiles can tell a story. Instantly. Stronger than 1,000 words. It shows where the wearer of that textile stands, how they face the world, and you confess colour.

It makes me genuinely proud when something, which I firmly believe in and have worked on from my idealism, is recognised by people and touches them. It means that with my profession, fashion, I have added something to the world. Not only in terms of ” made more beautiful ” but also ” made more aware “.

7. You’ve said that fashion is like a second skin. How do you think clothing affects how people perceive themselves and are perceived by others?

From kindergarten, you are taught to fight against injustice and do your bit for a better world. That’s in me too. I want to use it to contribute to the fight against injustice and to make the world a better place. The resistance of the current generation is with you, art, design, and yes, fashion too. With this collection, I denounce the injustice done to Palestinians in our civilised world. I take that to heart. I think it is important to reflect on my profession, with my medium, and what is happening in the world. Also, injustice still exists in this world. Through fashion, I reach people, speak to its wearers.

8. Can you discuss the importance of sustainable practices in your work?

Sustainability is not only in my work, but is above all an awareness.

This realisation is much more sustainable and timeless.

By embracing sustainability in both our mindset and our actions, we strive to create positive change.

9. You’ve collaborated with important figures in the art world, like Marina Abramovic. How do these collaborations influence your work?

For me, what such intense collaborations are mainly about is sharing visions. That I share and exchange my view of the world, of what is happening in society, with someone working in another discipline. For example, in the visual arts, as was the case in the collaboration with Marina Abramovic. That exchange, that sharing can lead to an enrichment, an added value. And it also makes the work more accessible to a wider, more diverse audience.

10. Can you tell us about the new projects or collections you’re currently working on?

In the coming projects, I will delve more deeply into the influence of the Palestinians on the world. I follow closely what is happening around me. That will shape my upcoming projects.

It is not possible now to indicate exactly what that will be. For me, it is not a matter of the latest gimmick or the next hot issue, but looking for the next fashion trend. I also keep updating what I am still touched by. At the moment, we are preparing some interesting collaboration projects that will be launched soon.

11. What are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced in your career, and how have you overcome them?

In the fashion world, we are taught that everyone is equal and that every individual has the same rights. Yet in practice, it appears that people are quickly inclined to put others in boxes as soon as things become complicated. As a designer, I enjoy the freedom to think freely with my vision. For me, everyone is equal and everyone has unique value. I try to integrate this vision into my work.

12. What are your hopes for the future of your brand and its impact on social and political issues

I follow closely what is happening around me. That will shape my upcoming projects. For me, it is not a matter of the latest gimmick or the next hot issue, but looking for the next fashion trend. I also keep updating what I am still touched by. The World Keffiyeh Day Collection and the cause of the Palestinians remain living projects for me. It’s not that I jump from topic to topic; I remain committed to issues that affect me. Those I keep following and working on. Resistance does not go out of fashion but is necessary as long as injustice exists.

In an industry often consumed by fleeting trends and seasonal hype, Aziz Bekkaoui reminds us that fashion can—and must—be more. His work urges us to look beyond the seams, to see clothing not just as fabric but as a statement, a story, and sometimes even an act of resistance.

As conversations around Palestinian rights continue, Bekkaoui shows us that fashion is about who we choose to become when the world is watching.

His journey from architecture to fashion, from art school experiments to global recognition, is proof that creativity can be both beautiful and purposeful. In a world where injustice persists, his keffiyeh collection stands as a bold reminder: resistance never goes out of style.

Azza Fahmy x MARAKEZ:

A Sunlit Ode to Alexandrian Summers

There’s something timeless about Alexandrian summers—the salty breeze, golden sunsets, and carefree spirit of beachside days gone by. That nostalgia came rushing back when Azza Fahmy Jewellery and MARAKEZ hosted an exclusive one-day celebration at Ramla, Ras El Hekma, offering a sun-soaked glimpse into their upcoming Azza Fahmy x MARAKEZ Beach Clubhouse, set to open in 2026.

From midday until sunset, Ramla’s serene stretch of coastline was transformed into a living postcard. Guests slipped off their shoes, sank into the sand, and let the day unfold in true Mediterranean style. The atmosphere was equal parts heritage and modernity—where the romance of summers past met the sleek edge of today’s coastal culture.

Music carried the rhythm of the afternoon. With Jayda G, Alyssa & Gia, and Jess behind the decks, the soundtrack blended global grooves with seaside ease, perfectly tuned for sun-drenched lounging and golden-hour dancing.
It was the kind of energy that lingers—the sound of waves, laughter, and beats drifting into the horizon.

Between swims and strolls, guests indulged in a culinary journey curated for the occasion. Each dish was designed to complement the setting: fresh, refined, and infused with coastal flair. Dining became part of the experience, not just a meal but a continuation of the story.

The setting itself was a feast for the eyes. Visuals and design elements echoed Azza Fahmy’s iconic craftsmanship, layered with MARAKEZ’s bold contemporary aesthetic. The result? A backdrop that felt both nostalgic and new, an homage to Alexandrian summers reborn for a new generation.

As the sun finally slipped into the sea, the event left guests with more than memories of a perfect summer’s day—it offered a taste of what’s to come. The Azza Fahmy x MARAKEZ Beach Clubhouse will be more than a destination. It promises to be a cultural landmark, a place where heritage, artistry, and modern coastal living meet under the Sahel sun.

In celebrating the past, this collaboration is carving out the future of Egypt’s beachside lifestyle. Alexandrian summers are back—and this time, they’re here to stay.

Crowning Confidence:

The Art of Hair Care with Hair’licious By N

Why Hair Care Matters

In the quiet moments before dawn, when the world still sleeps, a woman stands before her mirror. Her fingers trace through strands that tell stories, of late nights and early mornings, of laughter shared and tears shed, of dreams carried and battles fought. Hair, you see, speaks a language all its own. It whispers of our health, sings of our choices, and declares our presence to the world with every gentle sway.

Hair is more than just strands – it’s a crown, a symbol of beauty, and a reflection of overall health. In today’s busy world, it’s easy to overlook hair care, but the truth is simple: healthy hair starts with consistent nourishment from root to tip. Healthy hair starts with you. One timeless ritual that has stood the test of centuries is hair oiling, a practice that restores softness and shine, strengthens from within, and protects against daily damage.

“Your hair is your crown – whether it’s on display or under your hijab, it deserves royal treatment.”

Hijab & Hair Health

There exists a poetry in the choice to wear hijab – a deliberate act of modesty that transforms hair into something precious and private, a secret garden known only to its keeper and those closest to her heart. Yet this very protection, this loving shield from the world’s harsh gaze, creates its own tender challenges.

The woman who honours both her faith and her femininity knows this delicate balance. She understands that caring for what remains unseen is perhaps the purest form of self-love.

For women who wear the hijab, hair care takes on a unique significance. While the hijab shields hair from harsh sunlight and environmental stress, it also creates a warm, covered environment that can lead to dryness or breakage if left unattended. Scalp circulation, hydration, and nourishment are essential to maintain thickness and vitality. Regular oiling keeps hair strong, silky, and healthy – even when covered for most of the day.

A Brand with Heart

Hair’licious By N shines as a luxury organic hair care brand founded on purpose, passion, and personal experience. After facing her battles with hair loss and damage, founder Nooreen set out to create solutions that truly work – rooted in natural, ethically sourced ingredients and a deep understanding of women’s hair needs.

Product Spotlight:

The Scalp & Hair Therapy Oil

The brand’s hero product, Scalp & Hair Therapy Oil, is a hand-blended elixir enriched with nutrient-dense botanical oils and natural DHT blockers. Every drop penetrates deep into the scalp, awakening follicles and bringing hair back to life. It works to:

• Stimulate healthy hair growth

• Reduce shedding and thinning

• Nourish and hydrate scalp & strands

• Restore shine and manageability

• Support overall scalp health for all hair types – including hijab-wearers

Product Spotlight:
Growth Bomb & Fragrance Mist

For women seeking a powerful boost, the Growth Bomb & Fragrance Mist is a client favourite. Packed with growth-stimulating actives and layered with a luxurious fragrance, it delivers dual benefits:

• Accelerates growth & reduces breakage with natural hair stimulants

• Refreshes hair instantly with a long-lasting scent

• Strengthens strands while leaving them touchably soft

• Doubles as a hair perfume, giving women confidence throughout the day

Loved by customers across South Africa, it’s proof that hair care can be both effective and indulgent.

More Than Just Hair Care

Hair’licious By N understood something that goes deeper than ingredients. She recognized that true beauty emerges not from what we apply to ourselves, but from how we feel about ourselves when we look in the mirror.

Hair’licious By N is more than a brand – it’s made to help women reclaim their confidence. Each product is created to inspire self-care, boost self-esteem, and celebrate resilience.

From the first drop to the last, it’s about more than beautiful hair; it’s about feeling beautiful inside and out.

Whether your hair is free-flowing or gracefully covered, the care you give it today will shape its strength tomorrow. With Hair’licious By N, hair care becomes a ritual of love, empowerment, and elegance.

Nooreen’s brand is growing and so is her range, which now consists of:

No Trespassing at Ishara:
When the Streets
Take Over
the Gallery

This summer, Ishara Art Foundation swapped the pristine white cube for the restless energy of the street. No Trespassing (4 July – 30 August 2025) blurred boundaries between public space and the gallery, leaving behind walls and floors alive with marks, memory, and movement.

Ishara Art Foundation threw open its doors to the grit of the streets with No Trespassing, its first-ever summer exhibition. Curated by Priyanka Mehra, the show invited six UAE-based and South Asian artists to treat the gallery not as a neutral stage but as a contested street corner—raw, layered, and alive.

The exhibition didn’t try to define the street. Instead, it embraced its contradictions: chaotic yet ordered, gritty yet beautiful, forbidden yet free. Visitors encountered scavenged street signs, cement grids, torn posters, and exposed walls—each transformed into inscriptions of urban life and memory.

Highlights included H11235’s corrugated-metal installation riffing on absence and architecture, and Rami Farook’s bold act of carving out four square metres of the gallery wall, gifting it back to Ishara’s team as a gesture of trust and shared custodianship. Fatspatrol re-scripted found street objects with gestural markings, while Sara Alahbabi’s glowing cement maps captured the rhythms of Abu Dhabi on foot. In the final gallery, Khaled Esguerra and Salma Dib turned paper floors and layered walls into palimpsests of erasure and resistance.

By the time No Trespassing closed in late August, the pristine white cube had been scuffed, carved, scribbled, and reimagined—its surfaces carrying the same unruly energy as the streets outside.

Ishara’s summer experiment proved one thing: the street will always find a way in.

N-Lightened Self

Where Neuroscience Meets the Soul of Healing

In today’s fast-paced world, stress has become the silent epidemic. Burnout, chronic fatigue, and emotional disconnection are now the norm for many high-achieving professionals who spend their lives chasing success while neglecting their own well-being. For those searching for a path back to wholeness, N-Lightened Self offers more than wellness coaching — it offers renewal, reclamation, and rise.

Founded in South Africa by Natasha Sass, N-Lightened Self is not your typical coaching practice. Natasha’s journey began in the world of pharmacy, where she gained first-hand insight into how modern medicine often addresses only the symptoms of illness. With a growing interest in the deeper interplay between the body, brain, and emotions, she shifted her focus to integrative healing. Today, as a Mind-Body Specialist, Neuroscience Practitioner, and Naturopath, she fuses her medical background with holistic practices to deliver coaching that is both scientifically grounded and soul-nourishing.

“At N-Lightened Self, healing isn’t just about feeling better — it’s about becoming whole again,” Natasha explains. “It’s about aligning mind, body, and spirit so people can live fully, freely, and in flow.”

The Signature Method: R.E.C.L.A.I.M.™
Central to N-Lightened Self’s success is its R.E.C.L.A.I.M.™ Method, an integrative framework that blends neuroscience, somatic practices, naturopathy, and NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming). Rather than offering surface-level strategies, this method supports deep, nervous-system-rooted transformation.

Clients learn to regulate their bodies, release stored trauma, and reconnect with themselves on every level. The result is not temporary relief, but lasting change.

Programmes Designed for Transformation

N-Lightened Self offers both personalised one-on-one coaching and immersive group programmes, each tailored to meet the unique needs of its clients.

The Mindful Woman Collective is a three-month group programme designed for professional women facing burnout, chronic stress, and fatigue. It integrates gut health restoration, emotional resilience tools, somatic release practices, and sisterhood support. The aim? To guide women out of survival mode and back into their power, vitality, and joy.

The N-Lightened Man is a modern self-mastery programme redefining masculinity. Using neuroscience-backed practices, it empowers men to step into grounded strength, clarity, and emotional leadership — moving away from outdated ideas of “toughness” toward authentic connection and resilience.

Both journeys are rooted in Natasha’s belief that healing must honour both science and spirit — and that true transformation happens when we work with the body, not against it.

Through workshops, group experiences, and online resources, N-Lightened Self is creating a movement of people committed to deep healing, resilience, and self-mastery.

A Growing Presence in Holistic Wellness

Though rooted in South Africa, N-Lightened Self has a growing international presence, with clients joining programmes from across the globe. Its mix of personalised coaching, group immersion, and science-backed tools resonates with a world increasingly in search of integrative healing.

Renew. Reclaim. Rise.

In a landscape full of quick fixes and surface solutions, N-Lightened Self offers something rare: a commitment to deep, sustainable transformation. Through Natasha’s blend of neuroscience, naturopathy, and somatic practices, clients don’t just learn to survive stress — they learn to rise above it.

For anyone ready to regulate, reclaim, and rise into their most empowered, authentic self, N-Lightened Self is more than a coaching platform. It’s a sanctuary. A movement. And, ultimately, an awakening.

Bearing
Witness

From the Global
March and Beyond

By Najma Khan

Opening Note

I left home for Cairo with little certainty of returning—driven by a deep need to bear witness to a brutal occupation, and a siege choking Gaza, to establish a humanitarian corridor that would allow food, water and medical aid through the Rafah Crossing

The Journey was shared with the Global Movement to Gaza South African team, as well as the international teams.

My personal journey was shared with remarkable companions, Saleha Khan—kind, resolute, compassionate—the perfect travel ally, whose presence was both comfort and a shield. Nafesa Khalek, with a heart as soft as marshmallows, carried a gentleness that soothed even the heaviest moments…And then there was Yusuf Valley, his mysterious demeanour matched by a gift we came to rely on—his fluent Arabic, which eased tensions and opened doors along our way. I share with you my timeline as a witness. It started..

12 June – The Eve of the March

We gathered online—our South African “rainbow nation” team of Jews, Christians, Muslims—bound by a shared purpose. Public assembly was forbidden; raids already signalled danger. Yet, even virtually, we steadied one another.

13 June – The Global March to Gaza

Dawn broke with stubborn resolve. Soldiers confiscated our passports, holding us in the punishing heat. Around us: a global crowd—Americans, Australians, South Africans, activists from Code Pink. Mandla Mandela’s presence echoed histories of apartheid and resistance.

But the day spiraled. Shops closed, mosques locked, the sun merciless. Chaos erupted by nightfall; the South African team was scattered by force. Saleha and I were left behind, eventually guided to safety by strangers.

The march may have faltered, but solidarity lingered in the smallest acts: a final sip of water shared, a stranger’s kindness, prayers whispered on parched grass.

“Even in retreat, solidarity cannot be taken away. Small gestures are threads of defiance.”

Najma – Water filteration

Day 13

16 June – Youth Day

At the SA embassy in Cairo, we commemorated Youth Day with poetry—linking Soweto’s fire with Gaza’s. Voices of young people echoed across decades and continents, united in resilience.

17 June – Bearing the Weight of Truth

Morning – Palestinian Hospital – faces once confined to headlines now stood before us: women in ICU, amputees, survivors who had lost everything. One man insisted we photograph him—an act of remembrance, a defiance of erasure.

Afternoon – Refugee Compound

Scarcity and suffering surrounded us—burnt faces, amputated limbs, parents torn from children. Yet, the welcome was profound. Strangers shared food, tea, hugs, and hope. We pledged to replace broken water filtration systems and support a small school. The compound carried not just displacement, but the stubborn determination to rebuild.

Reflection: “This is a reminder that wealth is not in what we keep-but in what we share.”

19 June – A Birthday with Lessons

At a Parents and Teachers Association, I met survivors who had lost homes, children, spouses—yet they consoled us. One teacher reminded me: exercise sabr. Their faith, their Imaan, was staggering. Even in devastation, they rose each day with gratitude, hope, and courage.

Closing Reflection: A Ledger of Contradictions

This journey held contradictions—fear and courage, silence and witness, despair and stubborn hope. But the lesson was clear: Palestinians, with so little, embody a generosity, resilience, and faith that humbles the world.

The march did not reach Rafah. But in the prayers whispered, the hands held, and the love shared, the true march continues. I leave you with this…

“Displacement is a fracture in time, but community is the glue that keeps people moving forward.”

Interthread:

where creativity meets purpose

In today’s world of mass production, Interthread offers something refreshingly different—handcrafted accessories that celebrate artistry, individuality, and empowerment.

Founded in 2021 by Portia Thenjwayo, Interthread began as a passion project: transforming everyday materials like telephone wire and threads into striking, functional art. The result is a collection of bold accessories and distinctive home décor pieces that blend traditional weaving techniques with contemporary design. Each creation tells a story of culture, creativity, and craftsmanship—designed to stand out and spark conversation.

Interthread’s accessories have found homes through social media, local markets, pop-up events, and retail collaborations, quickly building a reputation for quality and originality. Yet at its heart, the brand is about more than design.

Recognising the power of craft as a tool for transformation, Portia launched Interthread’s training arm, a platform dedicated to skills development and innovation. Through hands-on workshops in weaving, crochet, and product design, women—especially from underserved communities—gain the tools to create marketable products while cultivating confidence and independence. The focus is not only on craftsmanship, but also on nurturing creative thinking and entrepreneurial skills that open doors to new opportunities.

This dual approach—design and training—embodies Interthread’s vision: to be a leading creative brand that merges traditional artistry with modern aesthetics, while uplifting women in the craft sector.

“Our mission is twofold,” says Portia. “To create pieces that bring beauty and meaning to everyday life, and to empower women through skills that foster economic independence.”

With every accessory sold and every workshop hosted, Interthread continues to weave more than just threads. It weaves stories of resilience, creativity, and empowerment—reminding us that beauty is not only in the finished product, but in the journey of those who create it.

The process of acquiring a new home, whether through purchase or rental, evokes a profound sense of excitement rooted in personal aspirations and societal expectations. This pivotal transition symbolises not only a change in living arrangements but also an opportunity for self-actualisation and community integration.

Moreover, the anticipation associated with selecting a new residence fosters emotional engagement. Prospective homeowners or lessees often envision their future lives within these spaces, contemplating design possibilities and lifestyle enhancements that align with their identities. This imaginative aspect significantly contributes to the overall thrill of the experience.

Ultimately, the excitement surrounding this endeavour reflects broader themes of stability and growth. A new home serves as a canvas for personal expression while providing a foundation for future memories. Thus, the act of buying or renting transcends mere logistics, encompassing deeper psychological and sociocultural dimensions.

Signing a new residential lease or offer to purchase in South Africa is a significant step that requires careful consideration and understanding of legal implications.

One of the foremost tips is to thoroughly read and comprehend the terms of the lease agreement or purchase offer. This includes paying close attention to clauses related to duration, rent increases, maintenance responsibilities, and termination conditions. Understanding these elements can prevent future disputes and ensure that both parties are aligned on expectations.

Another essential aspect is to conduct due diligence on the property itself. Prospective tenants or buyers should investigate the condition of the property, including any potential repairs or renovations needed before occupancy or ownership transfer.

It is advisable to request a property inspection report and verify compliance with local building regulations. This proactive approach helps in identifying any hidden issues that could lead to financial burdens later on.

Additionally, it is crucial for individuals entering into a lease or purchase agreement in South Africa to be aware of their rights and obligations under the Rental Housing Act and other relevant legislation. Familiarising oneself with these laws not only empowers tenants but also protects them from unlawful practices by landlords or sellers.

Seeking legal advice can further clarify complex aspects of agreements and provide assurance that one’s interests are safeguarded.

Finally, it is prudent to document all communications and agreements made during negotiations. Keeping written records ensures accountability and serves as evidence should conflicts arise in the future. By adhering to these tips, individuals can navigate the complexities of residential leases and offers to purchase with greater confidence and security.

Mozar

Palestine-Inspired Hijab Styling with a Keffiyeh

By Husna Variawa

Create a bold and culturally rich look by blending traditional Palestinian style with modern hijab fashion. Follow these professional steps for a refined finish:

Step 1: Prepare the Base

Begin by wearing a Mozar tube undercap to provide a secure and smooth foundation.

Take a Mozar chiffon hijab and place it evenly over your head, ensuring both sides are of equal length.

Pin both sides of the hijab above the ears (not under the chin) to hold it in place comfortably and neatly.

Step 2: Position the Keffiyeh

Fold the keffiyeh diagonally into a triangle.

Place the folded triangle on top of your head, centering the point at the back.

Bring the two ends to the back of your neck and secure them with a safety pin to hold the keffiyeh in place.

Step 3: Style and Twist

Let the two chiffon hijab ends drape naturally over your shoulders.

Take the two loose ends of the keffiyeh and twist them together.

Bring one twisted end around to the front of your head and pin it in place.

Take the second twisted end and bring it across the front as well, creating a crisscross design, and pin it securely..

Step 4: Finishing Touches

Tuck in any remaining loose fabric neatly at the back for a clean and structured look.

No accessories are needed — the style speaks for itself with its bold and traditional elegance.

And there you have it — a complete Mozar Palestine-inspired hijab style that beautifully merges culture and sophistication.

Getting Fit and Active in 2025

By Jihan Abrahams

Every day, we find ourselves caring for everyone else—husbands, kids, household chores, office work, cooking, cleaning…the list never ends. Yes, we squeeze in the occasional gym session, a facial, or a nail appointment, but what if fitness wasn’t just another “to-do” but a way of nurturing both body and soul?

At Covered, we believe wellness is more than a workout routine. It’s about balance, intention, and aligning our daily habits with our faith. And guess what? Islam has always encouraged us to live actively, purposefully, and in rhythm with our spiritual journey.

Fitness as Worship

Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh!

Looking after our health is not just self-care—it’s an act of worship. Our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ reminded us that strength is a blessing and encouraged movement, resilience, and vitality. Caring for our bodies is a way of respecting the trust Allah has given us.

One beautiful hadith reminds us:
“O Allah, bless my people in the morning time.”
(Hadith of Abu Dawud: 2606, Ibn Majah: 2236, Tirmidhi: 1212)

The early hours are blessed! Rising with purpose after Fajr not only boosts energy but also opens the door to barakah (divine blessings) in your day.

Your Sunnah-Inspired Workout Plan
You don’t need fancy machines or hours in the gym.
With just 20–30 minutes, two or three times a week, in the comfort of your home, you can transform your energy, mood, and health.

Day 1:
Lower Body & Core

Squats – 3 sets of 10–12 reps

Lunges – 3 sets of 10–12 per leg

Glute Bridges – 3 sets of 10–25 reps

Plank – 3 sets, hold for 20–45 seconds

Push Ups 3 sets 10 – 12 reps (Can stand against a wall or chair)

Tricep dips 3 sets 10 – 12 reps (Can use a chair and dip down for a more advanced movement)

Bicycle crunches 3 sets 10 – 15

Jumping Jacks 3 sets 30 – 60 seconds

High Knees 3 sets 30 – 60 seconds

Mountain Climbers 3 sets 30 – 60 seconds

Rest Days

Always take at least one rest day between workouts. Or go for “active rest” with a brisk walk, light stretching, or playful activity with the kids.

Tips for Success

Warm-Up & Cool-Down – Start with light marching and end with stretches (arms, neck, back, legs, shoulders).

Listen to Your Body – Don’t overdo it; build strength gradually.
Consistency is Key – Short, regular workouts are more effective than long, rare ones.

Move with Joy

The Prophet ﷺ taught that when we wake, remember Allah, and pray, we rise energetic, cheerful, and productive. Exercise is more than physical—it strengthens faith, builds resilience, and fills your life with barakah.

So whether you’re starting fresh or starting again, let 2025 be the year you honor your body, nurture your spirit, and embrace movement as part of your deen. Rise early. Move with intention. And let’s make every morning count—together.

The Mask in the Mirror

Johannesburg, 3rd August 2025

What began as a counselling session with a 65-year-old widow, yearning to rediscover herself after decades of giving, has grown into a movement. The Mask in the Mirror workshops create a sacred space for women to pause, reflect, and reconnect with who they truly are.

On the 3rd of August, Johannesburg became home to a day filled with sisterhood, storytelling, and inspiration. Guided with grace by Covered Magazine’s Editor-in-Chief, Yesmien KT, the programme unfolded like a conversation among friends.

The lineup of speakers shared pieces of their journeys, each one holding up a mirror to the women in the room. Coach Tasneem Basha opened up the discussion with “The Shadow Within” — exploring the masks we wear with ourselves. She was followed by keynote speaker Naadira Chippa, whose reflections on faith, resilience, and authenticity left many deeply moved. Zakkiyyah Obaray of Paizely spoke about breaking stereotypes around hijab and building a legacy rooted in the hereafter. Dr. Faheema Ismail reminded us of the power of joy through “Your Smile.” And Nadia Moosa, founder of Fab Functions, touched hearts with her story of loss and learning independence after the passing of her husband.

Beyond self-discovery, the event highlighted causes close to the heart — Mini Miracles Safe House Project, Africa Muslims Agency’s Water for Women, and the Amman School in Jordan and Palestine.

Johannesburg set the tone for something unforgettable. Next stop: Durban, on 20th September 2025.

Patterns & Prints

By Nazeefa Bhamjee

Hello again, sunshine!

I know you’re just as much ready for the warmer weather as I am. With Spring 2025 calling, how are we answering this season’s chic?

If you haven’t felt that va-va-voom yet, this is about to do it for you. Bold patterns and pattern mixing have officially made their debut. You heard it here first, stripes are back! So let’s take a more detailed look at what this season’s runway has to offer us in patterns and prints.

There is so much room for creative flair this spring, so go ahead and leave your fashion print. Like the fashion ideas I’ve just laid out, you can get away with mixing all your prints and colours this season, so use that creative streak and make your fashion an everyday masterpiece. You have my stamp of approval to leave behind that minimalist aesthetic.

But what colours are we leaning toward this spring?
Well, that’s a real treat. Pastels are very in, more specifically, you want to go for the yellows, greens of all shades from pistachio, to olive, and even dabble in those darker hues, powder pinks and lastly, mixing it up with some fall and winter colours that are staying for yet another season, navy blue, brown and burgundy. Here is a colour wheel to guide you through this season’s colour palette:

When you’re not feeling like mixing up your wardrobe, you’re going to want to build on a trending colour fit instead. So try linen coords, dresses, skirts and blouses and add in a knit here and there too. Yes, the time for sleeveless knits has arrived!

Lean in closely because I’m about to divulge a spring secret…

RED!

Yes, modest girlies, don’t make it a staple, but use this bold colour on the odd occasion to spice up your look.

If you thought the creativity ended here, you’re mistaken. We all love a little accessory or maybe a stack full. Use your accessories to complement your fit. It’s the season of colour so bring out those big, bold colour bangles, earrings, chunky necklaces and mood rings. Just be sure not to wear them all at once!

Lastly, keep those hijabs loose, flowy and complementing your wardrobe. There’s simply no need to fuss this season, keep it artsy, keep it vibey.

Sealed with all the colours of my personality,
Nazeefa Bhamjee

Strength Through Inspiration

SANzAF Launches Women’s Empowerment Initiative

Women’s Month brought with it a wave of meaningful conversations, and one of the highlights was the launch of SANSAF’s Women Empowerment: Strength Through Inspiration initiative on 13 August in Johannesburg. The event, beautifully organised by the dynamic Tayyibah Du Preez and team, was hosted at the iconic Saabrie Chistie Hall in Lenasia. It set the stage for dialogue around growth, resilience, and the unique strength of women.

Our very own Editor-in-Chief, Yesmien KT, had the honour of being the first speaker to open the initiative. In her heartfelt talk on mental health, she spoke openly about her personal journey with anxiety and panic attacks, sharing how she found grounding through the 54321 technique—a practice of reconnecting to the senses in moments of overwhelm.

What touched the audience most was her reflection on how this simple tool unexpectedly deepened her connection to her femininity. That experience has since grown into her Sense of Sensuality workshops, where she now coaches women to embrace both strength and softness in their everyday lives.

The evening was more than an event—it was an exchange of stories, inspiration, and empowerment that left attendees uplifted and connected.

These gatherings created a dynamic platform for professional women, entrepreneurs, and corporate leaders to connect, learn, and be inspired under the banner of #SheMeansBusiness.
