Manifestation is Consumerism
on a Yoga Mat

By Fatima AlSaad

Anywhere you look today people are manifesting their dream jobs, homes and husbands, and I’m not sure where to bang my head. The #manifestation culture is selling itself as a spiritual practice, promoting the power of our thoughts. In reality, it narrows our views of ourselves and the world. And I shall be so bold to say, there is nothing spiritual about it.

According to the manifestation gurus topping Google search, this is the popular approach: Firstly, be exact with your dream; then as proof of faith, be happy like you’ve received it; also work towards the dream to show the universe you mean it; and lastly, receive with gratitude.

(source: internet)

The advertised guarantee results in an expectation that my dreams will all come true. Tell that to Johnny Depp who never showed up at my door. Meanwhile, as I’m sure that Johnny will show, anticipation deepens my desire, and desire has a habit of turning into desperation.

So suddenly we want to manifest everything, from a beach-house to Beyoncé’s waistline. This promotes delusions of control over our fate. Ironically, the ‘One-with-the-Universe Manual’ preaches a zero-control policy, aka surrender. The job belongs to a Higher Power; up to you to call it God, the Universe, or Chaos Theory.

Of course, it is wise to be proactive in our life. It is great to want great things and to go out and go get ‘em. However, the #manifestation guides misguide, focusing on the principle that by thinking and wanting something enough, we have control in making it happen. That’s just Capitalism gone lazy, and Consumerism doing a down-dog.

The delusions of control are symptoms of being emotionally unprepared, and out of sync with reality. In our shiny wish list and vision boards, we scenario a perfect life. But this perfect life arrives packaged with much that wasn’t on the list, and likely undesirable. The handsome man has bad hygiene, the house is haunted, and the job will give you an ulcer. This is dismissed in the nouveau-spirituality manuals, and not even provided in finer print. Reality says: regardless of your dreams, life is necessarily both sweet and sour, and tomorrow is up to a Higher Power. When we submit to this, faith is nearer, joy is easier.

Now, just because our manifestations do work, it doesn’t mean our spiritual connection is tight. It is simply the inherent connection all humans have with the universe. Good people, bad people, tall people, short people, Hitler’s and mother Teresa’s; all of our thoughts and actions will have an effect. The law of attraction is as real, as sugar is bad for you.
Meanwhile, the spirituality slope is slippery, especially if like me, you can do a crow and quote Eckhart. Because of our recently softened ego, easily tricked, is now fanned and re-inflated to believe in its spiritual superiority. “I manifested this” and “I manifested that”, I, I, I, I made this happen for myself. Ummm…Higher Power?

Perhaps the worst of the manifestation guides is that gratitude comes last, where conditionality is at play here. So I propose instead, that we start with gratitude, and tread carefully not to breed entitlement. Because to believe that we will receive just because we want, and from God, no less, is the very definition of entitlement. A state of gratitude has no conditions. It stems from pure love and a honey-like humility. However, the attitude of manifestation where we ask in exact terms doesn’t sound like an ask. It is a demand. The demanding tone and the conditions of gratitude aren’t healthy in any relationship, be it with my mother, myself, or the Universe.

To desire, to dream, to pray, and yes also to manifest; these are good tools that God gave us. Because without dreams we wouldn’t have aeroplanes, heart transplants, and unfortunately the Kardashians. But my advice is, take it easy on the manifestation. First: be grateful regardless. Then, work for it. And last, humbly pray for ease of way. Because “I worked hard to get here” sounds much better, and I’ll bet you feel far more satisfying than “I #manifested this”.

DEALING WITH GRIEF AND LOSS

By Khadijah Mia

Currently, our lives are surrounded by a tsunami of fear, turmoil and the turbulence of pain, despair, grief and not to mention, loss. COVID-19 and the global crisis we are in is an indicator that nothing in life is certain. Our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual state has been challenged and stretched in so many ways. As a life coach, I interact on a regular basis with individuals who are currently experiencing pain, fear and a deep sense of loss.

Grief and loss are associated with some of these experiences:

• Death
• Loss of a job or income
• Loss of a relationship
• Separation or Isolation from a loved one
• Major change in life such as getting a divorce, moving, or retiring

Grieving and dealing with loss is unique to each person’s life experiences. Waves of grief may be present from time to time. The intensity of grief lessens depending on the individual’s ability to cope. Overcoming grief and loss is a personal journey of transformation and healing from within.

Dealing with grief and loss is a process and journey which is unique for each person. Navigate through your process and work through your emotions. Remember that pain is a “gift” that enables us to “heal”, “learn” and “grow”. May the Almighty grant ease to all those who are experiencing grief and loss.  Have faith and hope that this too shall pass.

Here are some coping strategies for consideration:

1.

Acknowledge and work through your thoughts, emotions and behaviour by understanding the “change cycle” that you are going through.

2.

Speak to a loved one or friend and reach out for any support that you may need. Surround yourself with people who lift your spirit and bring out the best in you.

3.

Pray and connect spiritually. This process helps enormously to stay grounded, increase faith, anchors you and helps you find peace and calm from within.

4.

Practice yoga or stretching exercises. This helps you create “flow” and assists you in tuning into finding strength, calm, balance and harmony from within.

5.

Increase energy levels by exercising or taking a walk. Exercise promotes chemicals in the brain that improve your mood and make you more relaxed. Specifically, the brain releases feel-good chemicals called endorphins throughout the body. This reduces anxiety and depression.

6.

Eat Healthy to promote overall physical wellbeing. When experiencing grief, many people already have a compromised immune system due to stress levels. It is vitally important to eat healthy and nutritious meals.

7.

Breathe. Find a space to listen to and feel your breath. Breathing helps increase the oxygen flow in your body, boosts the immune system and reduces stress and anxiety.

8.

If one’s mental health is compromised to the extent that one is feeling exaggerated feelings of sadness, fear, anxiety or depression then one may need to speak to a counsellor, coach or psychologist if needed.

9.

Practice Mindfulness and connect with nature. It is really beneficial to find places and spaces to tap into the “stillness” from within. Green spaces and sunlight are also great in reducing anxiety and finding a state of calm and peace from within.

10.

Create routine and structure as this will enable you to feel more balanced and occupied with familiar activities. Start with small activities that make you feel motivated and give you purpose.

11.

Find outlets, such as hobbies, activities and self-soothing exercises to ignite sensory flow. Find moments to awaken your senses.

12.

Rest, create bedtime routines, have less screen time, reduce sensory overload and observe self-care practices that enable you to detach, let go and heal.

13.

Keep a journal and reflect on gratitude, and work through your negative thoughts, emotions and fears.

14.

Focus on creating a positive frame of mind and develop positive thoughts and expectations which will lead to more well-regulated emotions, behaviour, faith and hope.

15.

Practice self-compassion and self-love and remember it is also ok not to be ok. Be gentle and patient with yourself as you heal and take things a step at a time.

16.

Find ways to regulate your emotions. Acknowledge them, express them and find self-mastery practices such as visualization, meditation, sound therapy, and self-development coaching, and healing techniques to help you get through and heal from within.

Simplicity is Elegance

Men’s Collection Spring Summer 2022

The beauty of style and harmony and grace and good rhythm depend on simplicity,
I mean the true simplicity of a rightly and nobly ordered mind and character.

Plato, The Republic, Book III

On the path traced towards rebirth, towards joyful reunions and the sharing of daily gestures, men are starting to rediscover a taste for elegance and dressing well as well as the emotions and sensations of well-being that stems from a polished, relaxed and contemporary style.

With this renewed desire for elegance, simplicity takes on a special role; because of its closeness to a natural expression of masculinity, it is capable of transmitting a message of authenticity, positivity and of spontaneity. The style seeks completeness through balance, essentiality and sobriety.

OVERVIEW

The pleasure of dressing well starts from the suit, a quintessential symbol of elegance, reinvented in a fresh and relaxed manner. Outfits featuring mismatched blazers add layers of richness and versatility to suits, capable of transforming a purely formal element into an elegant and versatile everyday item.

Where blazers ensure equilibrium, the slightly softened volumes of the season’s trousers complement outfits, renewing the canons of male elegance in a balanced and contemporary manner.

COLOUR

The colour palette covers a wide range of light neutrals, starting from mid-light hues of beige heading up to the very light sand, off-white and panama, next to which sit renewed shades of light grey.

Besides the noblest or sporty tones of blue, colour touches are concentrated on delicate and faint pastels: yellows, pinks and light blues that seem to emerge from a background of greys to diffuse harmonic and refined notes across the collection.

YASMINE SOUNNI

By Manuela Pirola

Founded in 2009 by Myriem and Yasmine Berrada Sounni and based in Casablanca (in the trendy Golden Triangle District), Loft Art Gallery has quickly become the focal point of modern and contemporary art in the African continent and a major player in the economic and cultural capital of Morocco.

“We founded Loft Art Gallery twelve years ago” – explains Yasmine Berrada proudly – “It is curious to say that I actually come from the world of finance. I studied Economics in Paris and I initially worked in the Stock Exchange market and asset management. Later, by chance, my sister and I decided to embrace the artistic field and take up this challenging adventure. Our love for art is innate and mainly derives from the familiar context. Our dad, in fact, used to collect valuable works of art and, little by little, this became part of our universe as kids. Together we instinctively honed our vision of art, which finally led us to set up our project constructively”.

Originally specialized in local contemporary art, Loft Art Gallery has expanded to include established and emerging artists from the rest of Africa as well as Europe and America. With a permanent work of research and art publications and a program which alternates monographic and collective exhibitions, Loft Art Gallery has contributed to the influence of the artistic scene within Morocco and abroad.

“When all started in 2009, I was 24 and my sister 27 and, as young Moroccan women, we initially asked ourselves how we could contribute to the world of art in Morocco. What could we bring to it? and since we both came from a finance background, with no artistic background (neither of us had studied the history of art before), we just considered starting, building up to something from our level of understanding, from us! Our first exhibition was held in Casablanca and was a tribute to the famous artist Chaibia Talal, whose paintings were so appreciated all over the world. This making it really challenging but we made it work. People were curious to see who was organising such an important exhibition and why”.

With the passing of time and a lot of effort, the Berrada sisters have become established gallerists, without however denying their past in the financial field: “Art and finance are two universes that are absolutely compatible: art is made up of sensitivity, sincere passions, it also requires a strong sense of organization, which I think I have consolidated by working in the financial sector. As gallery owners, we choose the artists and try to unite them in an exhibition, we follow their careers, their stories. Furthermore, art itself becomes a form of investment. Many people nowadays decide to invest in art. Investing in art is something different. When you buy a property or a piece of land, for example, you are forced to sell them entirely, however, with art, you can choose. A work of art is value within a human and sentimental side that can be transmitted from generation to generation. A gallerist highlights a work of art, those who buy from us must know what lies behind it, they need to trust what we do”.

Loft Art Gallery is a dynamic space that leads the viewers to a multitude of immersive cultural experiences. As Yasmine Berrada underlines, “In the history of the art of a Country there are several actors: artists, gallery owners, curators, journalists, art critics, etc. An art gallery represents a vision of a space, the works and photographs that are shown do remain a mark in history. The space is at the service of the artists, not the other way around. If one day our gallery no longer exists, then there will be lots of images speaking of us, saying that such work has been exhibited in that place. In this way, the work of art acquires a historical dimension, because if that work has passed in that place, the artist has passed in that place. Places of art can be everywhere, we often organise exhibitions and events out of the gallery as well, in partnership with some riads in Marrakech for example”.

“Vernissages today are worldly events” – continues Yasmine Berrada – “People leave their office to meet and at the same time watch an exhibition. Collectors come either before or after the vernissage, sales are never made during the event. Once art exhibitions were élite venues, to the point that some people didn’t even dare knock on a gallery door. Our task today is to popularize galleries and to make art accessible to everyone, especially to the youth. It is important to sensitize young people to art. We are always happy to welcome students of art or architecture. The youth are very present on social networks, on the media, they are the real gaze on art and the future of art itself”.

Covid-19 has clearly represented a challenge for the Berrada sisters who, like all professionals, were forced to modify the way of working and relating to clients, artists and art lovers: “Casablanca has always been the artistic heart of Morocco” – says Yasmine Berrada – “In the recent years, though, the focus has shifted to other cities, like Rabat and Marrakech, where numerous museums have sprung up along with the famous Biennial. During the pandemic we have organized several online exhibitions, we have been very active on social networks and we have created the hashtag #artspreadshope. We have maintained daily relationships with collectors both in Morocco and abroad, we have published posts, told stories, sent numerous newsletters, which was a huge job that allowed us to stay busy, to keep in touch with followers and to convey a message of hope through art. In the meantime, we have organized an exhibition dedicated to textile, “The Inner Garden”, the first 100% textile exhibition in Morocco. We are always here and we continue to believe in what we do, despite the difficult situation we have all been facing”.

“The pandemic has really taught us the concept of Digital Gallery” – continues Yasmine Berrada – “The space of the art gallery exists because it is real, but it can also dematerialize and travel on the web through images and videos. Today people do not need to physically move to get to know space, however, it is essential for people to know about the existence of this space, understand its mood and what revolves around it. We are excited to physically meet again with the public and collectors”.

What does being a gallery owner mean today and what are the everyday challenges they have to cope with? “A gallerist”, according to Yasmine Berrada, “is above all an agent, he/she is the one who spends their time contacting the artists on the phone to catch up with their latest news and their mood, to confirm projects with them. Artists normally live in their own world, in the ateliers where they produce. It is not easy to get into their psychology. As gallery owners, we are used to working with the artists, we manage and promote them. We happen to manage numerous artists with different personalities and stories and the question we always ask ourselves is: how to combine their universe to create the gallery’s DNA?”

Driven by the desire to encourage intercultural dialogue, Yasmine and Myriem Berrada have always imagined Loft Art Gallery as a platform for promoting the modern contemporary art scene to an international clientele. Thus, the gallery regularly participates in fairs on three continents and supports its artists during the biennials. Loft Art Gallery also works in close collaboration with many museum institutions around the world.

“We work abroad a lot, Moroccan art is extremely interesting and appreciated all over the world. For this reason, we are proud to carry our flag everywhere. We work mainly in Europe, Africa, America and the Middle East. In any case” – concludes Yasmine Berrada – “we do not sponsor only Moroccan artists. The gallery is an international one, we want to create bridges and dialogues between artists from various countries, between Morocco and other countries, have an open perspective that represents the richness of Loft Art Gallery. It is interesting for us to exhibit the works of a Moroccan artist in London rather than the ones of an Ivorian or a German, all supported by a Moroccan gallery. This is the richness of art, to bring down all borders!”.

Muazza Latib from
The Laser Place

By Yesmien Khota Touffie

It was a beautiful morning, sitting on the patio outside The Laser Place at the Houghton Hotel in Johannesburg, South Africa where the team and I got to know this dynamic mother of 5 and now business turned woman. Muazza Latib welcomed us with her friendly personality and humbly took us through a quick run-through of her cubicle before we headed out for some tea on the patio where we had an in-depth discussion on what made her seize the opportunity of stepping into the world of laser hair removal. And this is what she had to say.

What inspired you to start your own business?
After having spent the past 15 years raising my kids, I still felt a need to do more, to do something for myself. I began challenging myself physically with different sports but still wanted some other sense of accomplishment. So in simple terms, lockdown. After seeing how the global pandemic had both negative and positive effects on the world, I decided to make sure I come out of lockdown having achieved something more than banana bread and bottle flips (Laughing). Lockdown also allowed me the time to reflect and get focused, get all my ducks in a row and direct myself to where I needed to be.

Tell us what keeps you motivated especially facing the day to day challenges of being a working mum?
Being a working mom is a fairly new concept for me. I have been fortunate enough to have had the pleasure of being a stay at home mom. I had been wanting to do something for years, but also didn’t want that to come at the expense of my kids. My youngest is now 6 years old, this has freed up my mornings, allowing me to work in that time. As far as motivation goes. Paying the rent is definitely something that gets me going. Mostly, I am thoroughly enjoying building something, and watching it grow, gradually. For my kids, it has been somewhat of an adjustment now that I may not be available 24/7but I hope in time they will take the positives from it. We don’t have to be defined by just one role. While we can’t all have it all, we can certainly try to find a balance that allows us to have the best of both worlds. I get to be a mum to my kids first and foremost, but just as importantly, I can still be me, independent of them. It is something I think a lot of mothers struggle with. Forgetting who we were before our children.

Why Laser Hair Removal?
When I started laser myself, I had absolutely no intention of purchasing a machine. I had tried a few different laser machines in the past but wasn’t quite sold on the treatment. However, more recently I took a chance with someone who was using the Alma Platinum and was blown away by the result.

When I looked at starting my girls with Laser, I realised that there weren’t any studios in the area that were convenient and private. Nor anyone using the latest technology. I had always had an interest in aesthetics, but this was a product and result that I could personally vouch for. I contacted Alma, (honestly not expecting much of it) but I received a call the next day. By the end of the week, the sales rep had come out. She told us about the Soprano Titanium, the latest most advanced of the soprano range. This would be the first one in Gauteng. And I just decided to go all-in, take a chance on myself. It made sense to be able to offer a service that would make a positive difference in the lives of others, I could offer a more exclusive service and I could choose my hours, allowing me to still attend to my kids.
So really… the opportunity presented itself, and I took it, without overthinking. I really just decided to go all-in, no parachute, no lifeboat.

Can you tell us more about how laser hair removal works?
Laser is light energy that is absorbed by the melanin in the hair follicle as heat energy. This heat destroys the follicle, without damaging any surrounding tissue. I’d like to consider the hair itself as a path of travel for the laser to reach the follicle from the skin. The targeted hair is then ejected from the hair shaft by the immune system 7-21 days after treatment. The Soprano Titanium employs an in-motion technology that protects the skin, it also has a sapphire tip head that cools to -4’C keeping the skin cool as the laser is being emitted.

How does one prepare for laser hair removal?
Simply by shaving the area the day before. We’ll ensure that the area is clean (wipe off any product) before beginning the laser. Aftercare is just as simple: stay out of the sun, use a good sunblock and only shave or trim the hair between treatments. No plucking or waxing as we need the hair in the hair shaft for the laser to be effective.
How safe is laser hair removal if you are pregnant?
While the laser does not affect any tissue beyond the skin, not enough research has been done.

Tell us what makes you different from other laser hair removal salons?
I would like to say service, convenience and privacy. The Laser Place is run by myself. Even though in future there may be a need for a therapist, I would like to still have that personal relationship with all my clients. We are well located at The Houghton Medical Suites which boasts secure and ample parking, easy access and then of course there is the element of privacy. Especially for those clients who would like to be discreet about something as private as hair removal. Also, clients who don’t want to walk into a busy salon and possibly be treated by a different therapist at every appointment.

Advice for our readers wanting to start their own business?
Definitely, do your research, take advice from other business owners, the very real advice that most people don’t want to hear. Expect to give way more of yourself than you will get in return. Definitely find something that allows you to be who you are, find some part of the business that you really enjoy because there will be many parts that you really won’t want to get out of bed for. For me, it’s those little interactions with my clients, meeting new people, seeing results (this is my absolute best part), and throwing myself in the deep end. Sink or swim? Also, I think it makes sense to start small, don’t bite off more than you can chew. None of us needs the added pressure. But really… just do it. Consider the worst that could happen and if you could live with that, then just do it.

Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
I have never been able to answer that question. I would like to say with a fleet of laser machines powered by a team of experts in respective fields. But honestly, I am really loving what I have now. I would always like to maintain that one-on-one relationship with clients. I’m happy to see where the next 5 years take me. Most of all, I see myself having come out of every challenge that will come my way stronger.

What are the most frequent questions you get asked by your clients?
There is quite a bit of question, however, I would recommend a one on one session for answering any questions one might have as it is an individual and personal experience.
After a very informative discussion with Muazza, we decided to put her on the spot with some awkward questions which you can view soon on our social media platforms.

HOW TO ELEVATE YOUR INTERIORS THROUGH THE USE OF COLORS

By Manuela Pirola

Have you ever thought how colors can make the difference in the spaces you live in? Selecting and combining colors within interiors are not easy and it implies the consideration of several aspects. The Color Theory can be extremely helpful when it comes, for instance, to decide how to decorate a room, choose the wallpaper and the fabrics for your furnishing.
What is the function of the room? How much natural light does it receive? Are there any valuable architectural elements? What kind of furniture can you find there? Which sentiments and emotions do you want the room to convey? Here are a few questions you might consider to work out a palette of colors which perfectly suit and define your space.
The Theory of Color applied to interiors can be a great ally to aesthetically uplift your home and increase its value, which will prove advantageous not only for your wellbeing (since your place will definitely be in line with your personality and taste), but especially if you need to hire or sell the property: a few simple touches of color will transform the ambience and create the right atmosphere, giving a new life to your spaces. Furthermore, this re-styling will not cost you a fortune as you might just need to fresh paint or re-decorate some walls and introduce small objects, furnishings or any other colored detail.
There are numerous schools of thought related to Color Theories. Of course, if you want to reach a professional effect, the help of a color expert will be necessary. By following a few basic rules you will be able to successfully combine colors, surfaces and objects inside a house and obtain an impactful chromatic response.

Image 2, photo source: Pinterest, Farrow & Ball

Isaac Newton was the first one, in the distant 1600s, to explain that color originates from light. He discovered that light is composed of different colors and that by breaking the light through a prism, the seven colors of the rainbow are obtained: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. Only three of the colors, however, create white light: red, green and blue and for this reason they were called original primary colors. In 1859 physiologist Herman Von Helmholtz determined that every object is encoded by our brain in various percentages of these three colors (red, green and blue) and this is precisely how we perceive color. In the same years, Ewald Hering argued that yellow must also be a primary color since it was perceived by the eye as an independent shade.
The history of colors takes us till the famous Itten Color Circle. Swiss painter, writer and designer Johannes Itten in the late 1800s eleborated this circle (see image 1) which graphically represents the subdivision and creation of the various colors. Thus we have the PRIMARIES (yellow, red and blue) which, when mixed, give life to the SECONDARIES (green, orange and purple) and the TERTIARIES.

Image 3, photo source: Pinterest

Based on the Color Wheel you can create a series of standard color combinations which can be used as a basis to embellish your interiors. Here are a few simple ones:

MONOCHROME: only one color is used with variations in saturation and brightness. It creates a clean, sober and elegant atmosphere (see image 2).

ANALOGUE or HARMONIC: this combination uses colors which, on the Color Wheel, are adjacent to the color chosen and which, therefore, come in similar shades. In this case, it is important to select one dominant color, leaving the others has hints (see image 3).

COMPLEMENTARY: this combination is created by using colors that, on the Color Wheel, are opposite and specular to the color chosen. As opposite colors, you will obtain strong and impactful contrasts (see image 4).

Colors have also been the protagonists of the recent Milan Design Week (Sept, 5th-10th), whose pavillions, unfortunately still reduced due to the pandemic, have displayed a wide range of pop accents mixed with chromatically softer shades, beautifully combined according to the rules of the Color Theory.

Here are a few proposals, enjoy!

TIFFANY & CO. INTRODUCES THREE NEW GLOBAL HOUSE AMBASSADORS

Tiffany & Co. unveils today that Anya Taylor-Joy, Eileen Gu and Tracee Ellis Ross are its newest global House ambassadors. Ushering in a new creative vision for the storied jeweller, today, Taylor-Joy, Gu and Ross make their debut in the 2021 Tiffany T1 campaign, ‘Give Me the T,’ launching across Tiffany platforms on Tuesday, June 15.

“Growing up, I would often wander through the flagship store on Fifth Avenue, imagining myself as a grown woman wearing the bold elegance of Tiffany’s signature diamonds. All these years later, to be the face of this iconic brand and to represent the T1 collection is a dream come true,” said Tracee Ellis Ross. “Shooting the campaign was a welcome moment of inspiration and glamour after the challenging year that we’ve all experienced.”

Showcasing Tiffany’s signature collection through a pared-down, contemporary lens, Taylor-Joy, Gu, and Ross star in three vignettes obliquely centred around the letter T. Highlighting the design’s bold forms, striking pavé diamonds and intricate craftsmanship, the campaign was shot by Mario Sorrenti in New York City. While the story behind Tiffany T1 remains centred on inner strength and individuality, the breadth of the collection has evolved over the past year to include new bracelets, earrings and pendant styles, as well as new 18k white gold iterations. In the ‘Give Me the T’ campaign, Taylor-Joy, Gu and Ross layer the new designs with other striking T1 pieces—such as the T1 choker with nearly 250 round brilliant and baguette diamonds totalling over 13 carats—showcasing how the collection creates opportunities for self-expression.

“I love jewellery that has symbolism in it,” said Anya Taylor-Joy. “I love it to mean something to me. It doesn’t necessarily have to mean anything to anybody else, but I like to look down at my fingers and have a story.”

Following the T1 campaign, Taylor-Joy and Gu will star in the ‘Knot Your Typical City campaign—also shot in New York City by Sorrenti—for a new jewellery collection that Tiffany is set to release in North America this fall, and globally in 2022. Wearing designs from the new collection, Taylor-Joy, Gu and Alton Mason pass through city streets as quintessentially hard-to-impress New Yorkers offer clear nods of approval.

“Wearing a beautiful piece of jewellery, especially one that is meaningful or motivational in a personal sense, is an inexorable feeling—it’s empowering, inspiring and exciting to express me, to feel seen and heard without having to utter a single word,” said Eileen Gu. “I’m obsessed with the balance between elegant simplicity and striking boldness that the new T1 collection offers.”

TRAVEL TO GEORGIA,
CAUCASUS REGION

Georgia is a small Eurasian country that is at the crossroads of Eastern Europe and Western Asia. Georgia, bordering on the west of the Black Sea, is undoubtedly a country of exceptional beauty, with a diverse range of beautiful sights and scenery to offer visitors.
A good holiday, first and foremost, means a safe holiday. If you intend to travel to Georgia, relax about safety issues.

While some people prefer exotic family destinations for their vacations, especially during the summer, some individuals prefer more distinctive and exciting destinations. Consider the following scenario: you are a travel enthusiast who loves a unique experience with a plethora of fascinating views, delectable cuisine, rich culture, and an abundance of things to do and see. Does it apply to you? If so, believe me when I say that Georgia in Europe is a not-to-miss!
Georgia offers a plethora of exciting activities in addition to its beautiful environment and culturally rich sites and architecture. There is a diverse variety of adventurous things available in the region, from trekking and camping to skiing and learning about the local culture.

You’ll find the rapid evolution of Georgian cuisine and wine, as it moves from one era’s traditions to another, to be quite interesting. While in Georgia, be sure to take advantage of the excellent restaurants and delectable cuisine, as well as the uniqueness of Supra, the Georgian Table.

In addition to the beautiful landscape and a great coastline, Georgia has an illustrious past as well as an abundance of exquisite structures and architecture to see and explore. The Svetiskhoveli Cathedral and Old Tbilisi are only two of the many examples available. Tbilisi is Georgia’s lively, pulsing heart. It is home to more than one in three residents, with its spectacular valley setting, attractive Old Town, unique architecture, and fantastic eating and drinking possibilities. Tbilisi is boldly cementing its status as the most vibrant city in the South Caucasus, thanks to the city’s hipster culture, techno scene, and a general air of calm.

Moreover, you can travel to Mtskheta by microbus or ordinary bus, which is only twenty minutes west of Tbilisi. Until King Vakhtang constructed Tbilisi in the fourth century, Mtskheta was Georgia’s capital. The Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, which was once walled with a moat, is located in Mtskheta. Defense walls still surround the cathedral. In the 12th century, Svetitskhoveli was constructed. Mtskheta is a small village on the banks of the Aragvi River, which feeds into the Mtkvari. These locations will provide you a glimpse of the history of Georgia.

Georgia is a nation with a land area that is quite modest. Therefore, it is so convenient to move around in Georgia. As a result, you will be able to view all of the major tourist sites and landmarks in a short period of time, which is one of the primary reasons why tourists prefer to travel to Georgia. You can see the Krubera Cave, the world’s deepest known cave, with a depth of 2,140 meters, in Georgia, one of the most popular attractions. Georgia is unique in that it has such a diversified climate, especially given its small size, which effectively divides the country into eastern and western parts. The Black Sea coast of Batumi in Western Georgia, on the other hand, provides you with one of the best family destinations in the summer.
For more, upstream on the Aragvi River, about an hour and a half north of Mtskheta, sits the Ananuri Fortress. The Ananuri Fortress, located in the foothills of the southern Caucasus Mountains, was built in the tenth century.

The Svaneti region in Georgia’s northwestern region, separated from the country by mountains due to its difficult geological situation, is one of the most beautiful destinations. You’ll find many interconnecting mountain ranges that are primarily volcanic in origin and provide travelers visiting Georgia with magnificent landscapes, rare-looking lakes unlike anything you’ve ever seen before.

The Kakheti region is Georgia’s most eastern region, extending from Tbilisi to the Azerbaijani border. The Kakheti region is the cultural heartland of Georgia.

Apart from the architectural sights, you can enjoy natural sights as well. Georgia’s most prominent and most beautiful natural feature is the Alazani Valley. The Alazani River, which flows from the Caucasus into Azerbaijan, forms the valley. On a bright day, you could see the snow-capped slopes of the Caucasus Mountains throughout the valley.

Sighnaghi is the city that serves as the centerpiece of Georgia’s current government. Sighnaghi has just been rebuilt and is aimed at tourists. The city was constructed in the sixth century and still retains all of its defenses. Sighnaghi is built on a bluff with a view of the Alazani Valley. At its peak, Sighnaghi features a castle with the Church of St. Stephan. You may climb the citadel’s defense tower and take in the breathtaking views of the surrounding area. In this one-of-a-kind country, you’ll be greatly impressed by what you see and learn since you never anticipate witnessing such stunning scenery and uniqueness in one place anywhere around the globe.

Above all else, why not travel to Georgia for GOOD FOOD

The Russian poet Alexander Pushkin once said that “every Georgian meal is poetry,” I believe he was referring not just to taste and artistic presentation but also to the mingling of cultures on the plate. It’s hard first to find meals that blend the methods of the East and the West so delicately: soup platters, known as khinkali, are so popular in Tbilisi as in Shanghai and Georgia’s supple bread is not to be missed.
Despite these foreign influences, Georgian cuisine remains stubbornly authentic. Sure, meat stews may take on a sweet-tart dimension, as they do in Persia, but pomegranate juice and sour fruit leather, rather as prunes and apricots, are more likely to be at work here. While Georgian tomato salad resembles Mediterranean variants in appearance, it differs in taste with toasted undertones from unrefined walnut or sunflower oil.

Walnuts, in fact, are an essential part of Georgian cuisine. It’s an important component in menu mainstays like vegetable pkhali and chicken bazhe. On the other hand, coarsely chopped and candied in honey, it creates a delicious though simple treat known as gozinaki. Stews tinted brick-red with adjika (chili-garlic paste) will have you reaching for your water glass in the western regions of Adjara, Guria, and Samegrelo. Whereas the cuisine is gentler in the east, the Kakheti’s sparsely seasoned grilled meats are an exercise in simplicity.

Overall, Georgia is the place to go if you want to have a holiday unlike any other, as well as a location that will alter your view on Eurasia as a whole. It has a lot to offer in terms of visual appeal, mental stimulation, and emotional uplift.

Practical Tips

• When visiting Georgia, try to avoid peak summer months and instead go in late spring or fall.

• To avoid overpaying for taxis, use an app to find one.

• Carry cash because in rural areas, hotels and restaurants may not accept credit cards.

• You can drink water directly from the water taps.

• Georgians are accustomed to waking up late and staying up late. As a result, don’t expect the stores to open before 9 a.m.

• Last but not least, stay at a guesthouse and enjoy a home-cooked dinner during your time in Georgia.

FW21

The sociality denied in the past seasons now urges a need for escapism towards new territories or just towards a new normal. In the meantime, everything in women’s’ life has profoundly, maybe irreversibly, changed: from rhythms to occasions, but this is a natural and smooth less transformation for MARELLA that has always been by their side.

Functionality is part of the brand’s grammar, it is therefore no surprise that is so explicit in this new normal. Starting from the colour palette for the Fall/Winter 2021 outerwear with its soothing hues ranging from camel, white, black to foliage shades. Shapes are varied: long and wrapping, short in mohair with herringbone pattern, check patterned with fringes on the hem, or in bouclé in pastel or bright hues.

The need to travel or just to have a day out can be perceived in the folk soul of the crêpe de chine dresses to pair with kid mohair cardigans. Knitwear is still a major focus in our lives – wrapping and cocooning knits with soft cables or belted cardigans to wear on the skin or on a romantic blouse with Lurex yarn and frills.

Fashion goes beyond the boundaries of folk when it becomes more urban and mixes all codes: the romantic blouse is matched with leather-effect coated trousers and the long coat, the geometric printed shirt with the check patterned suit in recycled fabric. The geometric patterns are found on short dresses, on blouses but also on knits to be paired with the leather-effect coated skirt and trousers.

The collection boasts several blazers but also shackets to use when it gets chilly at the end of summer and as statement garments with jeans. After a long year when it was all about home wear, women go for five-pocket trousers as alternative to joggers to stay at home, yet also to go back to work or for any formal duty they have, having a wide choice in Marella collection to satisfy any need. From boot-cut fit to the one with high cuffs, from super stretch skinny to slim-cut to a revamped boyfriend fit, less oversize, more fitted.

Marella suits any silhouette and matches any occasion or need. With the aim of further simplifying women’s wardrobes, MARELLA confirms Marella Art.365 project and introduces Marella Monochrome.

Marella Art.365 is the seasonless line based on garments designed to be worn 24 hours a day, on any occasion and, above all, which do not wrinkle and can be easily washed at home. For F/W 2021 the print pattern comes from the creativity of Italian designer Elena Salmistraro, who created two patterns for the brand inspired by the world of music: the unmistakable black and white and a new colour palette of bright or delicate hues. Colour is at the heart of Marella Monochrome, a collection using few hues – pure camel, pure white, opal and mineral – and so many garments to wear in a single nuance.
Marella Bag is proposed in several materials and shapes to meet several uses to create a wardrobe that combines the codes of practicality with the savoir faire of tradition.

Kimchi Apple Chicken Ramen with
Brussels Sprouts

Pan-fried Brussels sprouts taste fantastic
in ramen and are the stars of this dish. The
combination of soy and kimchi with the

flavours of apple and miso for balance – is
definitely a winner!

A major rise in efforts to lose weight and gain muscle happens a few months remaining before summer. Let’s have a look at what can we do during the summer time to stay fit and healthy.

Tip No. 1 Consistency is the key

It might not be fashionable, but consistency is the dreaded word no one wants to hear when it comes to training.
Hence why it’s important to do an activity that you enjoy.

Tip No. 2 Define your goal

You want to look your best, but what is most important is how you want to feel: strong and healthy, toned and light? What is your short- and long-term goal?

Tip No. 3 Use New Technogym App to help you structure the workouts over the 4 week cycle

Being smart about how we organize our workouts across a week, the exercises we choose, and how we group them together within each workout means we can maximize the efficiency of our program and get back to our best in the quickest time possible.

Tip No. 4 Train all your body abilities

One of the most efficient way to train is three full body workouts on alternate days and in between some recovery, 50-60% of your max HR duration 30-50 minutes training (walking, jogging or running).

Tip No. 5 Improve workout efficiency on your cardio days

One of my preferable for the cardio training is Run Personal treadmill and Cross Personal that combines cutting-edge technology, innovative materials with the design of Antonio Citterio and Toan Nguyen, to bring you professional cardio training and pure entertainment while you run or move on the cross Personal.
With an integrated Technogym Live user interface, I can achieve results in a fun and motivating way using the live sessions and having personalized coaching throughout the session that I can choose to improve my stamina, power, use routines or outdoors to add variety to my cardio days etc.

Tip No. 6 Learn to workout smart and move more efficient, not necessarily hard

My full body workouts are easily planned around fundamental movement patterns: Push, pull, Bend, Rotation, Squat Lunge Locomotion. These are the key ingredients in my cooking cupboard.
The best is to focus on multi-joint or compound movements, which are exercises that use the most muscle tissue – and thus build the most strength and require the greatest energy to perform.

Kinesis Personal is a full gravity technology machine that 100% supports these exercises, giving your body an amazing feeling of connection through the core in the combination with upper and lower body movements.

Tip No. 7 Moderate weight training is a must

Whether squat, deadlift or overhead press, weighted exercise can improve posture, increase bone density and muscular strength, define your limbs, and improve the circulation of happy hormones. A recent study even discovered that weight training boosts the production of new neurons, leading to improved brain health and memory.

Tip No. 7 Core every day

The trunk of your body forms your core, which are the muscles of the abdominals, pelvis, lower back and hips. The core is not just your abs or your six-pack. These muscles are the stabilizers of our bodies that help us sit, stand, and do various basic activities. My favorite is Technogym Wellness ball solution that has suggested videos for many different exercise variations.

Tip No. 8 Hydration

Start the day with a big jug of water with your goal for the water intake and fill all your water bottles from it to monitor your progress throughout the day. I’m all for visual and physical cues like water bottles you see that remind you to drink up.
It regulates body temperature, keeps joints lubricated, prevents infections, delivers nutrients to cells, and keeps organs functioning properly. Being well-hydrated also improves sleep quality, cognition, and mood.

Enjoy the summer whilst staying fit!
